Turbo Wars: Garrett GT3582R vs. BorgWarner S300SX 8375
G'day all, I'm looking at a couple of turbo options for my EFI build that could support 500hp. These two fine examples of turbos seem to be a decent fit. I plan to run a divided set of headers so a twinscroll turbo can be used for quicker response.

I think protomotive-Todd Knight uses this turbo Garrett GT3582R Twin Scroll Turbo - Full-Race.com

Nice huh - no more guessing and reading old and outdated charts! It even plots your specific engine air volume needs and scales the VE charts!

There is still quite a bit of guess work as we don't know the VE of our engines. Certainly not achieving 100% much less 105%. I would think maybe 85%-90% tops at peak torque.
Squirrel Performance has a similar calculator but offers turbos from other manufacturers. It to relies on data you must "guesstimate". |

Yes, I've read that before and it does give you a good baseline but still assumes VE. They quote 80% for a typical engine.

Yup....
After reading all this data and you are going with EFI. It looks like BW S300 8375 is the turbo I would go with. Value and performance on the graph speaks for itself. But once in the car/setup-cams--blah-blah it could be another story. The-BorgWarner S200SX 7670 Turbo looks interesting smaller like a K27-Prouduces Recommended for use in quick spooling 380-480+ whp applications..I proabably with go with this if I had CIS-only.
