opinions on adding a wastgate muffler

My car sounds great, but when the wastgate opens(.45bar) it really gets angry and it's kindf of embarrasing. If I got a muffler for it, will it effect performance much and where do I find one? Thanks, BA

It's only a dump pipe. Lighter and smaller than a WG muffler but it roars. When I can get to a computer I'll add a photo but I'm on the phone and can't add a photo. Gimmy your email and I'll email a photo.

I don't mean this as an insult, just yanking your chain, but that is the first time I have ever heard anyone refer to the sound out of a Porsche Turbo wastegate as "kind of embarrassing"!

The reason it's embarrassing is that it's loud. I love the sound if my 930 engine. But the open wastgate is a sound that's a little much. Lots of air lots of roar lots of noise. I'd rather hear more exhaust sound.

LOL, I love my dump pipe. My RarlyL8 muffler is loud enough that the dump pipe is only slightly more noise, sounds great especially when it opens up under an overpass.

If you cut that full bend to a 45 degree you will direct more of the noise rearward. Noise will be the same but you should hear less of it rebounding off the pavement under your car.
Side exits are also noisy to the driver and tend to attract cops. Straight back, down slightly, if you want to reduce attention and hear it the least.

Personally love the noise of the waste gate opening unrestricted, sounds bloody awesome .....

If you do want it quieter, why don't you get someone to weld a pipe from the waste gate to the main exhaust muffler? Should be quite easy I would think?

I prefer it with out the muffler. The sound seems to complement the forward thrust.

That's true, it does complement the forward thrust. I've been thinking about it and it's probably that I almost always do full throttle runs. When I do part or over half throttle its much better. Also, lots of it is that it's open more with my lower boost spring so it gets ok more for me than everyone else with .8 or 1 bar springs. My boost spring opens at .45 bar.

Fer shame fer shame! What kind of 930 owner does mostly full throttle runs? Certainly not anyone I know....

Early on I had the stock WG muffler in place, but deleted it when changing out to a Fabspeed muffler with matching left hand side exhaust pipe muffler tip. I just had to fabricate an extension from the WG to match up with the muffler tip, so it looks like I have a dual-out muffler. Honestly, I didn't notice that much of a difference in dB without the WG muffler, probably because the noise is now directed straight out behind the car, and the sound waves just never make it to the cabin (i.e., going faster than the speed of sound @ warp 1.0).

I just added the andail/garritson intercooler as a why not type of thing. I didn't expect much chsange in sound or anything other than performance in hotter running conditions,(my little bast..d is a mad dog early in the coold morning so I felt it might be more like that more often). It was, but it also has nicer sound
Also, the feel is more light switch on off, and seems like the boost onset sound is nicer? AFR changed leaner, not a lot, maybe a leak? And last but not least, more power. It's a little startling and gives me the feeling I might break something in the 915 transaxle department
I'm only running .45 boost.

Hey Quatrorunner from your photo of your dump pipe, it doesnt look like you have much room for the stock wastegate muffler.
