EFI ignition maps
EFI guys, I think we should create a thread of ignition maps to compare and build from. Please take a screenshot of your ignition map and post the image here along with your general engine specifics (displacement, twin or single plug, fuel type, turbo, etc)
Here is my curent map to start (I need to fine tune it, as the car is a bit twitchy down low) 3.3 stock internals, single plug, wasted spark GM coils, 93 octane, K27-7200: ![]() If you can't host the image, send it to me in an email and I'll host the image and reply with a link you can post.

Great idea Fletcher.
I am just in the process of beginning to set up my 930 with a Haltech ECU so this thread is very timely. I will be interested to see what others have done. ![]() Richard

My personal opinion on the numbers I see in the map above is the numbers over 30 are pushing the limit on what I would use unless you are using a great knock system. Those numbers are what you might see in a non turbo Motronic map, but I have seen too many turbo engines over the years with detonation issues. I hope you are using a cold spark plug.

3.3l CR 8:1 stock crankshaft, rods and pistons (pins tapered), stock heads (machined), 964 cams, SDS EFI single plug K27-7200, RarlyL8 headers and muffler
something important missing? ask ![]() Note: always Ign + present pressure value = Total amount of ignition. Example: 30 + -5adv = 35 of total advance ![]()

Hi,
I too am just getting started. My set up is twin plug, 8:1 with 964 cams. Willing to post a screen shot, but don't know how ....... can you give me a quick instruction? Dave |

Hmm it depends on your system. For me (windows XP and Linux) it's easiest to print out as PDF (not paper), then use the copy function in pdf viewer (don't know the name) looks like a camera, then open paint, paste and save as jpeg, which can be uploaded here...

In Win 7 you can use the snipping tool: Snipping Tool - Windows 7 features - Microsoft Windows
On a Mac you can hit command-shift-4 and select the area you want a snapshot of On Win XP hit ctrl-print screen, open MS paint, hit ctrl-v to paste the snapshot, then crop and save as jpg. Here are instructions on how to post the image once you have it: posting images

If you don't want to show your entire screenshot you can crop it down to just your EFI map using the select tool in ms paint before saving the file. Last edited by JFairman; 05-07-2012 at 07:27 AM.. |

It looks a bit conservative at low rpm's (2000-3000) at low pressures, cruising etc... (100 is 1bar absolute on your map, correct?) As you have twinplug, it's about 5° earlier i got in mind, but still conservative. I run up to 40° at light loads without detonation with 98ROZ (Euro) fuel

He is twin plugged according to his earlier post, that would explain the conservative advance. 100kpa is absolute on his meqasquirt graph and my VEMS graph.

Roland,
Conservative for sure. The engine has about 6 kms, (10 minutes around my house) on it apart from getting it started. In short I put in a fresh rebuild with new LN Engineering pistons and cylinders and did the EFI conversion at the same time. So my timing map is pulled from turbo 2 valve BMW's that I have done with some timing pulled for twin plug and more timing pulled because of the money I have spent on the enging. Then a few more adjustments made based on a telephone call with Richard Clewett and my own gut feel. After break in and getting my fuel right I plan to get on a dyno to tune the timing. A this point I would love input and hope I am advanced enough to keep heat under control. Dave |

and in Canada I can get 94 octane ....... 93 in the US
I don't know how that compares to your 98 |

Ah then it's a good starting point. You will be very pleased about the difference in throttle response when increasing advance later then
![]() I can't remember which thread, but it was Thierry25 who posted some stock 965 timing values, which where surprisingly unconservative forced at advancing something around 35 to 40° before boost. I will post the link as soon i found it

No question about throttle reponse and timing, I learned that with the BMW.
I also went from 7:1 to 8:1 for throttle reponse reasons. Thanks for the advice, Dave |

Caveat: I believe the timing marks on my crank are 2-3 degrees retarded, so these read too aggressive if your marks are accurate. Also, this map is set up after many, many dyno pulls for max power but needs work for "drivability." As in, sometimes it stalls off throttle and hunts at idle. The motor is a 3.2L supercharged twinplugger with an air-air intercooler on max of 13psi.

JohnJL, I'm curious why you have the area of 5 and 0 between 1250 and 1750?
