Bbs rs

I p/u a set of BBS RS wheels in 928 offsets, these I will rebuild with 17" wheel barrels and hopefully end up with 9.5"x 17" and 11"x 17" possibly 12" The wheels had very little care and were caked with mud and brake dust. nasty.
Anyway they will be revived.

Also managed to clean more of the under carriage.

Nice - those are identical to my set, I'd be OK with $2k for mine!

What does it take to make them into 17s? Do the centres from the 16s fit into the 17" barrels?

You can check Kodiak Racing Wheels - Custom lightweight race wheels for performance and racing [Shells] for custom made halves. They are also in Canada.

Looks like they're no longer offering RRS RS replacement wheel halves

They look great, I went to the Rufs because of limited tire choice in 16" but would go back to my BBS if I could turn them into 17s cost effectively.

is there a seal that goes between the metal pieces? if so, can you purchase new ones when you separate?

thanks

no seal

I believe these where made air tight with a bead of silicone RTV of some sort, i haven't reached that point so not sure what product to use.

After the wheel is bolted together and torqued to spec, lay some masking tape on either side of the three pieces and run you bead smoothing it neatly out with a finger, peel the tape away and you will have a nice even seal.

hope this helps

There's no seal between the centers and rim halves on the DOT spec RS wheels. After bolting them together just apply some silicone gasket sealer of choice in the recessed groove where they came together and then wipe the silicone bead with your index finger to spread it smoothly in the groove. you have about two tries before the silicone sealent starts to dry and pull as you slide a finger over it to screet it out.

I've done it many times and never used tape or anything else. It's just like caulking around windows or in corners of walls. run a bead and wipe it once with your index finger to smooth it out and force it deeper into the crack or groove.

With the BBS motorsports wheels there is an aluminum ring that takes an o ring on each side that goes in between the rim halves when you bolt the center to them. Those are supposed to go together dry but i use hylomar gasket sealer on them when I bolt those old wheels up.

Got the 9x16 spare back together, pretty simple to do.

If anyone is looking to buy a set set with 1' wider lips than stock send me a message. I may be looking to get out of mine. I have since changed projects.
Sorry for the thread jack.
