GSF header install - Help, Help
For the guys that have GSF headers installed - HELP
Did you have any issues engaging the Heat ex tubes into the exhaust ports? I have a new set and cannot get the tubes to insert into the exhaust ports. I have been advised to locate the heat ex by the flange nuts and tighten then use a bar to move into place. Problem is if i do this the tubes are digging into the barrel. Please can anyone with experience advise on this. Is this the norm and i need brute force and ignorance. Thanks TIM |

That doesn't sound right at all, my B&B slipped right in. I would call GSF and get another set.

Do you mean the individual header tubes themselves into the exhaust port on the head?
Sometimes, if the primaries are larger than 1 5/8th" you may have to machine the heads to fit, aaccording to BB, which is why they don't recommend 1 3/4" primaries.

The tubes just don't line up. I would have thought they should slip in or a little tight.
Will ask if they can send another set. Thanks |

My issue is getting both heat exchanger in let pipes into the exhaust ports. When one pipe is fitted the other two are off by about 4-5 mm. Even a pry bar won't move them over.
Albert is going to send me another set, so hopefully will be a push fit. ![]() |

GL, I'm sure Albert will get you a proper set.

Its a real shame this has happened as the welding is very good and the boxes look nice.
I know what you mean about no dramas, this will keep the car down for a couple of weeks whilst waiting for the replacement parts. |

timspu - I'm not trying to be offensive, but your posts are a bit confusing as you are misusing some terms . . . you are having difficulty getting the headers/header pipes to line up with the exhaust ports (not the "heat exchanger inlet tubes"). An example of a heat exchanger inlet tube is shown in the picture in post #5 (the pipe with the aluminum flex-hose attached to it).
I hope GSF makes this right for you! |

Ronnie,
Good valid point, yes it is the header pipes to exhaust ports. |

Sometimes you have to get "oil field" on them. Take it off, grab one primary with both hands and put your foot on the other primary that is off. Gingerely pry them apart and retry. Keep doing this until it slips in.
![]() It's metal and it will bend. Doubt there will be any extra stresses induced by this since they will have 0 heat cycles on them.
