Does anybody actually run modified with a cat?

I have recently bought an 87 930. I've been reading about mods and can't find much info about cats. Is it true that modern high end cats run near 90% flow? Just trying to balance my marginal environmental ethics vs my need for hp. This car is a low mileage survivor and I plan to only do bolt on mods. As a result I'm evaluating options.

...i run kokeln intercooler and k27 turbo with 1.0 boost spring, together with stock muffler and cat...i pass CA emissions - with 02 sensor plugged...its a trade off and a sacrifice, but i don't go to the track and the cops swarm like flies on poop here in california...still, the possibilities of going a bit further are entertaining...

Now THAT is what I would call a "high end cat". Nothing like a warm tea tray to lounge about on.

I deleted my emissions cat in favor of a flowthrough exhaust, but in the very early days with still the stock muffler I'd installed a cat bypass. That in itself made a world of difference. Of course, we're talking old school cat made in '87 and probably plugged up. Who knows about modern cats, provided you can get one that fits.

Being environmentally minded is a good thing, but....if you don't need one to pass emissions testing, then don't. The cats were fine for controlling emissions at idle and maybe steady throttle cruising to a point, but who were they kidding. When these cars are on boost, the rich emissions would say we should never be allowed to drive these cars.
