Porsche 930 Distributor partname?
Hi guy's
Something you all know except me... Can someone tell me the name of that part pointed by the arrow in this picture. My English is pretty bad and that's why I don't know the name of it? If somebody knows where to find it would be great! Thanks in advance fellow pelicans ![]() |

It is commonly called a "vacuum pot".

Vacuum pot.
The left side of the one in your picture is vacuum advance when throttle body venturi vacuum is applied to the little hose fitting and then it becomes boost retard when turbo boost pressure is applied to it. The right side is vacuum retard when intake manifold vacuum is applied to it's hose fitting and then that side does nothing when turbo boost pressure is applied to it. I don't know if you can get a new one. |

Mine is broken so not working. some look similar like the older vacuum advance. at least they look similar in the picture ... ![]() So that means you have to buy a new distributor? ![]() |

If the places that rebuild them don't have the parts you need then it depends how easily you give up on it. There is always a way if you search for used ones and new old stock.
Or you could lock down the centrifical advance mechanism in the bottom of the distributor at full advance and get the MSD programmable CD box that monitors engine rpm and load with a map sensor to control your advance curve. I don't remember the name of it but again you can search or maybe someone that has one will chime in and mention it. Thats is the best route if you keep the distributor. Last and by far best you can go modern and switch to crankfire EFI with full engine management. Then you sell the CIS and the distributor. |

I think your distributor is 0 237 302 045. Is that correct? Remove the unterdruckversteller (vacuum control) and look for the number stamped on the control arm. Report that number to me. Hopefully, it is 2865, in which case you can buy it here on Pelican (via Porsche) as 930-602-917-00-OEM.

It's funny, I just had my '87 USA distributer that is just like the one in the picture you posted above completely apart today. It's back together in the car now.
Takes time and patience working on those things... I didn't feel like stopping to take any pictures, just wanted to keep working on it. If you take it apart just be real careful not to loose the tiny little polished pin that is about 1/32" thick and around 1/8" to 3/32" long that fits into a narrow groove between the star shaped reluctor wheel and the center shaft. It's under a snap ring that has to be removed before you can see it and then there's another snap ring on the shaft under it. Looks like the vacuum pot part number speedy posted is the one you need if thats your distributor above. You have to carefully take apart and remove the guts of the distributor to unhook the vacuum pot linkage rod from the stud on the bottom of the stator winding plate. That can be done without removeing the drive gear from the bottom, and be careful not to stretch the 2 centrifical advance weight springs while taking it apart. |

Several vacuum pots are available through Napa as well. Scope out the Echline catalog:

... or you can replace it with a Euro vac pot, there are options.
