GHL headers cracking

Well it looks like the heat cycles have finally had their way with my headers. I believe these are GHL's. Can these be repaired on the vehicle or do they need to come off? I think I know the answer, but...

If it were me, to be safe, I'd remove. The last thing you need are loose welding "particles" flowing thru the turbo. This way you can run a chain of some sort thru the pipes to knock of potentially loose metal from the welding process....

That happened to mine also. I took them off, cleaned them, and then repaired the cracks. It's a good idea to make sure there is no slag sitting in the headers after repair. That being said, it's best to take them off to repair.

These are SS correct? Did you do the work or did you have someone do the work? I was wondering how you cleaned the carbon out of them on the inside?

Thanks,

John

John, Yes they are stainless. Cleaning was more prepping the cracks on the exterior by grinding. We did run them through the parts washer which did a decent job. My brother did the welding. After we ran a chain and cable through the headers to check for any debris. We also used an inspection scope to take a look around. This was a couple of years ago. They are working great. No more cracks.
