MSD 8762 Boost Retart Installed...Rev Counter Not Working
Installed a MSD Digital 6AL unit some time back with no problems and the rev counter worked fine so I didn't need the rev adapter.
Cars run fine like this for a few years with rev counter working OK. Just installed an MSD 8762 boost retard as as per the install guide. Car starts and runs fine but my rev counter now does not work! Has anyone else had this issue? Will I now need the rev adapter or is there something with the install that can be done differently to get it working? Cheers ![]()

just got an email back from MSD support and they say I was very luckt to have not needed a Tach Adaptor when I installed the 6AL, but now I do need one with the Boost retard installed.
So hand in pocket again.....see what happens when the Tach Adaptor is installed.

You move the tach signal wire over to the single male spade terminal sticking out on the other end of the 6al.
I'm going on memory from years ago when I installed it and I'm a little foggy on that but I'll go out and look in a little while. In the online 6al instructions from MSD (google it) they mention that because there's two ways to hook up the tach trigger wire on the MSD 6al. Do not buy the seperate thing from MSD, you don't need it! I experienced the same thing when I installed mine. |

Installed the Tach Adaptor and still not working Tach!
Tried a different Tach and still not working. Removed the Tach Adaptor and the Boost Retard to try and go back to just the 6AL as it was working originally and still not working. Wonder if the Tach output from the 6AL is still working at all. Going to try and find a way of checking the tach output from the 6AL
