How does Haggerty come up with there values.

Just looked up my 86 930 On Haggertys ins. site. Holy *****. If my car is a #2 or #3 Makes it worth 60k to 80k
Can any one tell me how they come up with these numbers.

I'm not sure how they come up with their numbers but I can tell you that I looked on their site couple of months ago and the "average" value they showed was $19k lower than what they show now!

I thought their charts looked a bit "hockey stickish" but then we have this data point...recent sale of '78 930 on ebay. Rare color, but pretty rough car (a solid #4 car by Hagerty standards). Hagerty chart shows #4 condition '78 and '79 models are valued at ~65k. This car sold at 60k - so it got 92% of Hagerty value.

He came to our club meeting and explained a few things He is a real car guy, and knows a lot of people, and knows a lot of people who know a lot of people. It is basically a car counting and supply approach. There are so many made, so many wrecked, so many FUBAR, which leaves the remaking ones. Of these, some are in the market, and some aren't. When people start wanting them more, and wanting to sell them less, the price starts to take off.

So I consider my car to be a 2.5 on their scale. In Aug 2013 it is valued at around $45k and now it is valued at somewhere between $65-$75k????


That seems a little crazy but I will not argue with it.....until I want to buy another one.

The same thing appears to be happening to the NA Cars as well. The 996tt's are the bargains now.

WOW, I have never seen anything like that except on 911s in off-road rally trim - looks absolutely ridiculous.

How do you figure $65K-$75K? Unless I'm reading their chart incorrectly it appears a car rated at 2.5 would be Hagerty-valued somewhere in the low-nineties. Heck, a No. 4 car is shown as being valued at $65K.

Based on Hagerty's updated valuations I contacted them yesterday and, for an additional $32.00 per year, upped the value of my No. 3 car to $85K. Seems kinda crazy but Hagerty set the market so once I was quoted a premium of less than three dollars a month more than it was at $40K I didn't hesitate to make the change.

Yes 85 MPH speedo, jacked up ride height and restrictive exhaust was the way it rolled into USA. Here is another 79 stock late 930. If I ever started to drive it much I would change to Euro exhaust and ride height spec. However with these prices, should just leave it alone except paint the wheels paddles to original black.

Yeah, the glove box door looks relatively straight and the dash isn't swollen above the AC duct. That seems kind of rare in the older ones and I guess it means this car didn't sit and bake in the hot sun alot and was garaged.

I see scratches in the upper dash behind the steering wheel and I guess thats from women with real long finger nails scraping the dash as they turned the wheel.

Thanks, I found a picture of the other side but deleted that also as i thought they might be to self serving. I'll re-post. I originally got it 10 years ago with 14K miles, sold it and got it back last year with 33K. Your right, his wife drove it some for the finger nail marks. And yes it was very well taken care of, even sheep skin covers on the seats and a removeable dash cover when not inside since new. I'll bet it would clean up very nice like the black one, but I like them to be left, carefully driven with whatever minor flaws happen. They can be fixed for show or if offered for sale, but not by me, unless cabin fever sets in.

I was surprised when @ $120K. Now over $130. I guess Hagerty is "right on" this one. Even not a rare color. Wait till the ultimate buyer drives or better yet buys one that is nicely modded. The mileage on it will most likely stay under 20K for quite awhile. On the other hand even if he drives it alot, not much i would rather drive than just about any nice 930 no matter the price. So a low mileage one for big $$$$ is still a great deal even if you put miles on it. I don't drive a stock 930 with emission stuff much, as opposed to modded ones ( there is a 112 leaded pump right up the street )
