Wtb: K27
Good rebuildable core also considered.

I have a UMW K27S sitting on the shelf with less than 5K miles on (went to a GT35R). I can't feel any radial play and the axial play is <0.0035". I did find some oil in the housing when I removed it so the seals may be on their way out but I was not burning oil noticeably and was running it without a scavenge pump, gravity draining directly to the engine sump. It has seen only Mobile One.

I'd like to hear your experiences and comparison in how the car drives and accelerates between the K27S and the GT35R.
I've never talked to anyone that has real life experience of driving with them on their car. Not looking to put the K27 down, I would just like to hear your opinions of the two turbo's. thanks. |

JF, friends 965 has one coming from a T66 or T67 (very laggy). I am surprised how he can hit 1 bar in 1st gear (not sure what RPM) beings that the turbo is a T4 with a 1.06 AR and his header isn't even divided!
The scroll of course is. That's something..... |

I have ran k27's of all variants and GT35's on the same motors with same mods. What you will notice most is the lag difference. The k27/s/hfs 7200,7006 etc. is much better than the 3ldz but no comparison on the same motor with the same mods as the GT35. the GT35 is the way to go unless you have a custom built turbo that s designed to your particular engine/specs. To tell the truth I don't know why people are still using the k27. It is a great turbo sure, but expensive as hell and not as good as the GT35. I am temporarily running one until I finsh my twin set-up and it kills the 89 in here with the k27 with fabspeed headers, Ic, and cams. I tried to talk that client into the Gt3582R because with the fabspeed components he has it would be so much better!

Does anyone know what a good K27 is worth on the used market? I have one I'm about to sell, unfortunately I don't have a pic of the data tag handy.

Thanks for all the input....but my post is to search for a K27. Do not want to have to do any welding to my headers and get into fabbing connections for the Garrett. I am plenty happy with the K27 hybrid that i am running right now. Smokes 255/45/17 rear tires in 3rd gear on a narrow body like it is no one's business. What more do I need? I am not tracking the car and don't need to squeeze every dop of HP for the sake of sacrificing durability of the engine.
Cheers. |
