Notable Recent 930 modification projects

Ok folks...the number of times I check in here to see that valuation discussion threads are at the top of the page is becoming depressing. Yes, I'm certainly guilty of participation (now considering offers over 100k for my Minerva Blue '79 - I dare yahSmileWavy).

There is a Porsche Marketplace Discussion forum, just sayin'Porsche Marketplace Discussion - Pelican Parts Technical BBS

Ken's project is pretty bold, and features some impressive (to me) DIY fabrication aspects. Not just turning nuts and bolts here. I am looking forward to seeing how this one comes together - EFI + ITBS + Turbo = yum

JFairman's project, recently completed...not a massive mod project, but this car ain't stock either. This man's work is clean, and his photos are awesome.

Rey...been quiet, we're looking forward to a drive report (and we should meet one of these days too)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/760431-efi-conversion-mistress.html

I suppose its not a 930, but did you guys see JohnJLs supercharged track car? Some tasty stuff going on here:

This isn't a 930, not even turbo'd, but many of you may remember fellow Pelican Billjam. He sold his 930, but this is his current project - 3.6L EFI ITB. Long thread but truly inspirational

I know there's a lot more going on around here besides CNBC "Marketwatch"

Tell us what you're up to...I changed my oil recently, not much else to report:p

All of the exhaustive valuation talk of late (I'm guilty of participating in some of it, too) makes me think of what it must be like when Paul and his buddies get together to talk about/compare their wenises over a beer or twelve! :D

Ken911 05-08-2014 01:43 PM

Well thanks!!! I'm glad you guys are interested in watching my progress. Now that im not working 7 days a week anymore i'll be back at it on the weekends.

Thanks for your constructive contribution Ronbo...at least you bumped this thread to top. Maybe that's the goal - I want higher billing for this "Notable Recent" thread than the other "Notable Recent" thread:p

Done anything interesting with your p-car lately? DIY maintenance, modification, fun drive?

WPOZZZ 05-08-2014 02:06 PM

I need to get a good cat and bird deterrent for my 930. It sits in the carport under a cover and the birds love to sit and **** on the car cover. I have cats and they love to scratch the cover, sleep on the car, and piss all over the cover.

Ronnie's.930 05-08-2014 02:08 PM

I'm currently driving the Turbo about 130 miles a week for work - all highway, and baring any wreck slowdowns, the sheer speed of the highway blasts is fairly "fun" - have to be reasonable, though due to heavy po-po presence in the DFW area.

I'm about to install a stereo with USB port - lots of wiring mods to do since a previous install/hackjob used double crimp, butt connectors to splice into the wiring harness. I previously cleaned some of that up when I removed an amplifier that I didn't use, so at least have made a dent in the mess.

About two weeks ago, I created a permanent power supply for my LM2 - Innovate only offers a cig lighter cable, so I bought an additional one of those, cut the cig socket adapter off, and hardwired into the stereo's switched power supply and ground wires - works great and can no longer see the ugly cable hanging out of the face of the dash (and in the way of feet of all of the hotasschics that ride in the passenger's side)!!! :D

I'm about halfway through making homemade stands and lift bars for the car (for use with and without the wheels installed) - couple of years ago, I built some ramps, that the entire car could drive up on, using 12X2 boards - got the car in the air fairly well, but was totally impractical since they were so heavy to move around (even with heavy duty castors on them). So I decided to cut the boards up and make boss, stacked wooded stands. I'm making some steel bars to use as lift points for a low-profile jack that I have - bars will run left to right linking strong, jackable points in the front and the back of the car so I can lift either end with ease, and don't have to use the engine case (I realize that this is OK to do, and have done so in the past, but have never felt good about it). I might take some pics of that project and post up when I'm done.

I have the JWest headlight relay kit here and will install that soon.

I have steel braided, Teflon brake hoses for all four corners and will install those soon as well. I know that some people advise against the steel braided lines, but I have used them for decades, on cars and motorcycles, and really like them a lot.

I haven't washed my car in around two months (like Paul, that is not a big priority for me) - does that raise my manliness quota around here?

Oh, and I, too, changed my oil a couple of weeks ago - Motul 300v4t - hugly expensive stuff that I really like and is ALWAYS included in my Christmas and B-day wish lists (gallon jugs of the stuff, of course).

More to follow, BIT@HES! :D

And because no thread is complete without a few of these, here is the reaction that Paul gets each and every time he attempts to talk to a member of the opposite sex -

<a href="http://reactiongifs.me/angry-middle-finger/" title="Angry middle finger"><img src="http://reactiongifs.me/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/jennifer-lawrence-middle-finger-silver-linings-playbook.gif" alt="Angry middle finger" title="Get more Reaction GIFs at http://reactiongifs.me" /></a>

speednme1 05-08-2014 02:12 PM

Hey Jacob, car should be ready soon. Part of the delay has been my fault too..all in all I'm happy for the way it's turning out...unfortunately with the amount of money I've "invested..lol" I'm probably on the negative side of the market...oh well I could have cut a few corners and saved my self some serious coin but I hate half assing things...truth is I wanted MY vision of a 930..hopefully when(if) the time comes to sell I will find someone who can appreciate what has been done..

$100K for your car?..should be easy for you to find that in this market...problem is you will probably never find another car like yours without paying a large amount as well....take it from me, when I sold my 94 3.6T I had friends that told me not to..I should have listen...best Porsche I have ever owned, unfortunately I will probably not be able to afford another one at the current market prices..

I'm trying to take off at least one day off to make it to Turbopalooza...:D

Ken911 05-08-2014 02:26 PM

Ah turbo palooza the last one I was able to go to was the palm beach one had the cars in an exotic cars show. half the northern crowd didnt make that one because the cars were all apart. Since then mine has been apart. Maybe one day the planets will align and we can all hve time off work and running cars at the same time.

zcoker 05-08-2014 03:18 PM

I'm currently finishing up a front suspension refresh on the Porsche and after that I will probably start on my black turbo bmw, tuning a new Haltech ECU, writing new fuel maps for for that -- after I get another Optima battery. Went dead on me from sitting too long. The projects never seem to end!! We need some sort of motivation thread for sure.

xbmwguy 05-08-2014 03:35 PM

Hey jake. Still tuning my fresh rebuild with ms3 gt2 cams 1100cc injectors reworked yet again extreme cylinder heads , at Christmas he just bought a 250+ k cnc machine and I went up with my heads he had previously done by hand to see what the computer can do. Took some more material out but we were all amazed at how good bill is with hands. Anyway did denso coil on plugs Turbokraft billet full bay, and a monster gt 40 with a billet wheel. I did a few 20 pound boost runs last week and 3rd gear wants to bust loose and I will be running 22-24 lbs. all this on e-85. Dyno time for fine tuning hopefully next week. Everybody down here has been racing so will keep you posted

copbait73 05-08-2014 04:14 PM

My '73.5 911T turbo sits at the shop under a cover and I drive it often. It just went over 60,000 on it's original drivetrain. The first year CSI works well most of the time and I get to tweak the 7th injector map, W/M system and MSD spark settings. Found all these band aids work but do show their limitations to air temperature changes. I'm thinking I need to pull the driveline soon and redo the clutch. Shifting is a Major pain.
This is my first full year of retirement and it is my plan to return to my other car, a 73.5T based street racer. This one will have a highly ported, crammed and highly boosted 930 3.0L motor. Bought the motor disassembled 4 years ago and it's time to get it together. I'm planning to build with 993 exhaust and VNT turbo(s).

Hams930T 05-08-2014 04:17 PM

I've been having fun this spring with my car and downtime... I decided to take the plunge on a complete 935 setup for my car; compliments of Clint @ RSR. This includes a 935 front end and all!

Some fun pictures...

A lot more work still; but I am enjoying it so far. It's a nice diversion from stress in life.

Chris.

Ronnie's.930 05-08-2014 05:24 PM

Chris, nice looking work, but FYI, only homos wear protective gloves when working in such and incredibly clean environment as represented in your pictures! :D

krasuskyp 05-08-2014 05:26 PM

dewd!

whatta fun thread!

THANKS JAKESTER fer rightin der ship here. Let's stay this course, like what this place used to / should be.

Some real neat stuff goin on out thar. Impressive.

Ken, yer thread only continues to serve to remind me of what noskills I have. Keep up the good work, it's fun to see someone so handy doing such neat work.

Ronalittle... ah, impressive stuff you got goin on. I hear you on the pigs. Lame. Fight da powah! I'd love to see some pics of yer rig you got goin on... my feeble feebleness does have trouble picturing such. Great birdism yet again, btw, butofcourse. Keep 'em comin. Stanley.

Rey... lookin fwd to meeting you and seeing your build in JULY! Yeah. Sounds like some tastestuff certainly.

Bryan... I'm struggling to refrain from laughing @ yer predicament. Sorry 8-). That totally sucks. My solution would be something absurdly inhumane and ludicrously excessive - nothing pisses me off more than nature fukkin w/ mah shiit. And I like cats. Cat piss is the fukkin WORST tho. I Google Image'd cat repellent tryin to come up w/ a funny pic - but sadly all that came up were actually some good ideas. Have a peeksee.

Zecoke... damn, lookin good up front!

FRANK! Finally, an update! Lookin forward to more deets my man. Yer almost there...

Oil... good on you for takin that project on... lotta folks could benefit from yer efforts.

'Bait... great to hear. Sounds like some fun stuff. PICS!

Chris... fukk man... I'm near (near) speechless. Shiit just never ends w/ you down there. Holy crap, insane in the membrane my friend. Beyond impressive. Lookin fwd to impressions.

I'd include my update, but I've bored you all sufficiently recently enough.

I will conclude tho w/ a heartily heartfelt 'ism fer Ronnie:

http://replygif.net/i/156.gif

Howbouts the rest 'o youses! Keep 'em comin.

ps. my car's not investment grade booo freakkin hooooo SmileWavy

LOL!!!

In all seriousness - I need to keep my hands nice looking for my day job, so the gloves help with that. I don't really like wearing the thick work gloves; they just get in the way too much.

I bought the latex gloves for my parts washer action and I just keep using them for the rest of the setup.

I went ahead and yanked my gas tank so I could get things uber clean in the tub area. I'm also relocating my battery, fuel pump relays and other stuff into the smuggler's box. That has been fun...

Oh yeah - A/C out - so far it's about 50lbs worth of crap in a box!

Chris.

Chris.

You and I are on opposite ends of the spectrum regarding a/c - I keep ADDING components to make it work better! Does that mean I'm the "homo"?!

jwasbury 05-08-2014 05:50 PM

Glad to see some responses here. Keep 'em coming gents...love love love it

and, BTW, not taking the bait on ANY discussion of value, what my car could sell for, or what "return" on investment will be for the $ or time spent tinkering to make these cars go harder, faster, better than they did when new. There are other places to discuss that $hit.

Here's another talented DIY warrior in action:
