The drama never ends. My injector blocks went into the parts washer...and didn't make it out. Apparently they fell apart under the strain. I can only guess that the years of heat cycles destabilized them enough that the solvent in the washer, coupled with heat and agitation, was too much. Ordered another set from Pelican, as I'm determined to complete my little injector block experiment.

I have a used set of those somewhere at the bottom of the stash pile. If you need them to experiment with...they are yours. regards, Al |

When finished can you post KW/HP power of your engine if possible
Im doing some numbers on before and after 930 engine work Can you tell which is your engine when stock (going by your VIN) 180KW or 195KW ? This stuff is good to note and gives good figures for different type of builds and outcomes |
Will do for sure

Looks good Kenik. I have one of those sitting on the shelf as well, just waiting for my car to get back.

Yes, I'm a sick f#Šk...just received these little items:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1409864170.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1409864185.jpg Thermal Reactors will NOT be going on the car...they will persist as wall art, attached to the stock heat exchangers and 3LDZ turbo. The decals, on the other hand WILL go on the car. I am a sucker for funky factory graphics. :D |
Love the ol'skool turbo graphic.....that'll look cool over the sienna / sahara
Cheers DW |
The 16 x 7/9 930 Fuchs are on. Will paint them later...
Bridgestone RE-11 tires. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410291294.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410291343.jpg |

LOL. |
So when this thing is running again are you just going to drive it directly to the paint shop or enjoy it for a bit?
|
Enjoy it. Plus I'll be doing all the prime and prep myself.
|
decals yes! exhaust logs. NO!
|
Exhaust logs are just wall art.

I really wanted to make up some elaborate story about the VIN sequence and corresponding production date falling in line with pigment delivery specific to that color at the Lesonal plant... It's a beautiful color - congrats... Quote:

Heads, Rods and Cylinders arrived over the weekend. Now we just need to mic the rods, choose the right rod bearings and the build can begin. Getting close.
Once it starts, I'll make sure to load lots of pics. |
Yay!
My car is back at Bernie's keeping yours company again. |
|
Tell us about those pistons!
|
The pistons are your basic 98mm JE turbo piston. 8.5:1 CR and have had the skirts coated by Calico. I was going to have them fully coated, but my mechanic said just do the skirts, taking into consideration the success he's had with all of the 935s he's rebuilt over the last 40 years.
Heads and pistons are getting CCed today. I'm guessing the final CR comes in closer the 8:1 than 8.5:1, given the pocket for the second plug. Cylinders just came back from boring and replating, too. Also, notice the boss that was drilled and tapped into the heads for the 993 knock sensor bar (bottom pic). I am loving the security of knowing that I'll have knock control to back out timing and boost, if needed. Curios since you were boring and replanting cylinders why you didn't move to full fin? The 993 knock sensor bar is a very nice item to have w/EFI nice call |

All conjecture at this point. I have to get the car running first! :D |
So it begins...we have bearings, crank and rods assembled.

Progress continues, but hit a minor snag with the cams...the cams just weren't quite up to snuff with the build quality and spec anymore. When this was initially going to be a bang-bang reseal, I wasn't too concerned with the minor peripheral pitting on the DC15 cams. But since I've decided to go all the way, revisiting the cams was a must once I got another look at them.
So, I sent a spare set of 993SS cams out to Dougherty to have the oil pump drive added - I expect them back next week. Let's just say the "boot in the back" character of this car is going to be something...and the K27-7006 isn't quite enough turbo to take full advantage of the cams. We can address the turbo later. :) BTW, check out the 993 knock sensor bars! Finally managed to get some photos of the Ruf speedlines you sold me
Kenik. I'm liking the look.....it's a bolder look, less delicate look than the standard 16" Fuchs, but I'm happy! I'm also enjoying living the rebuild vicariously though your posts. Looking forward to seeing you latest ol' girl on the road. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1413017988.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1413018119.jpg |
No air deflector plates across the tops of the cylinders?
|
They look even better down under! ;)
