Thank you, sir!

pkabush 07-07-2015 03:01 PM

Looking good Kenik. I bet you can't wait to get behind the wheel of that beast.
Are you still planning on a respray back to the original color ?
I've been slaving away on my house so, mine's exactly a you last saw it.:(

kenikh 07-07-2015 03:29 PM

Fully planning on bringing it back to original. In a related story, I discovered that my car's twin, #520 (My car being #521), was built to the exact same spec. Even better, the car is in concours, original condition and the owner has been kind enough to offer me photos of any detail I want, to ensure I get it all right. An amazing stroke of luck!

TurboKraft 07-07-2015 03:57 PM

Gorgeous color, what is it called?

Ronnie's.930 07-07-2015 04:06 PM

Kenik, I really like yer AC/DC coating on the tail and wastegate pipes - ceramic? I've been tempted to do the same (mine are natural stainless, currently).

kenikh 07-07-2015 04:08 PM

Ronnie, yes, ceramic.

Chris, the color is Sienna Metallic. A custom order color from the back catalog in '79.

JakobM 07-07-2015 11:42 PM

Great picture.
Sienna Metallic is #436 in year 76-77
e.g. like Les Pauls 76 on this forum (from POTD thread)
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1432924891.jpg

I am not sure whether it was only available 76-77, but as being custom ordered on the car above in 79 it might just be

kenikh 07-08-2015 09:40 AM

Test fitting = PROGRESS!!! :)

Tonger 07-08-2015 10:05 AM

You might want to consider ceramic coating the hot side turbo housing as well while you have the motor out. It'll help protect it from rusting.

kenikh 07-08-2015 10:07 AM

I had considered, but then decided not to. Oil works fine. :)

will hung 07-08-2015 10:32 AM

Great luck, and gorgeous twin. Will you be using sugar scoops or keeping the H1's?

WinRice 07-08-2015 10:36 AM

What?.....no fancy colors, no red fan, no polished stainless?

Nice and clean, I like it!

I'm on the fence regarding the lights, as my '69S could REALLY use the H1s. I think scoops look more appropriate in body color than in chrome, so the 930 would be the better candidate.

When you wrestle the devil in the details into submission, subtlety becomes the ultimate bling.

kenikh 07-08-2015 07:04 PM

And the wiring harness is really starting to come together. Had a plate made for the Molex plugs, painted & mounted it (we had to make sure it would fit where planned, hence the engine mock-up) and separated the wires into three bundles (Ignition, Accessories & F.I.) and pulled the through the connectors. The hope is to have the engine compartment pinned down by tomorrow.

Kenik,
I am really digging this project. The engine is ...........subdued...yet crazy. Is this close enough to done to make an appearance at the JWW swap?

al

kenikh 07-08-2015 08:59 PM

^ There's a puncher's chance...this car WILL be going to Rennsport V, for sure.

kenikh 07-08-2015 09:08 PM

Speaking of subdued Al - it has always been my MO. My goal with this motor was for stock looks in every capacity possible, with all of the benefits of modern engine management and performance know how. I'm still planning on going the FrankenCIS route, as well as eventually wanting to get the single plug dizzy operational, but still firing a second set of plugs. in that timeframe, I'll even probably go back to a stock IC...first with an assist from water meth injection and even possibly with a water/air recore using Laminova components.

BUT, we will walk before we run, yes? :D

kenikh 07-09-2015 09:19 PM

So, "we" got the car started today, so a small win. Why small? And why is we in parentheses? Because as life has a sense of humor, I am on a plane right now, and time is too tight prior to rennsport to wait until I get back. :P

It gets better. 5 minutes into the warm up cycle, my "500 mile after rebuild" k27-7006 starts puking more than a rush week sorority house. Oil was flowing black through the streets - a veritable Dino slaughterhouse. As I'm on a plane, I was just able to download the video from email and see the horror, but sharing will have wait until I'm stationary. It is not a sight for the squeamish. ;)

Still working on options, but I think my Turbonetics 61 is out due to the t4 flange, which leaves the old 3LDZ, which is also an unknown commodity.

Fukfukityfukfukfuk.

pkabush 09-02-2015 12:42 PM

That blows. Your welcome to use my 3 LDZ. It's good to go with a recent rebuild

kenikh 09-02-2015 12:44 PM

And another question: WTF won't the decklid close with the Andial IC installed??? We had to fire the car up using the factory IC. Sh¡t!!!

kenikh 09-02-2015 12:45 PM

Thanks Paul. I'll let you know if it comes to that.

Can help you with a quick repair of the -7006, or, Turbonetics may still have one of their 0.77A/R T-3 turbine housings left that has the K27 4-stud pattern.
Don't take multiple steps backwards with a 3LDZ.

Did you remove the original intercooler's plastic shroud from the wing?

That sucks man. Seriously.

kenikh 09-03-2015 05:02 AM

Yes it does. And now the race against time begins, because Rennsport is weeks away! Two things are happening now: the K27 is going to Chris Carroll's guy for rebuild overnight this AM. As a second prong, I am going to procure a T3 body from Turbonetics for 60-2 turbo. Whichever is ready first, goes.

Gotta start tuning ASAP.

16Volt 09-03-2015 09:04 AM

I leave for vacation next week but let me know if there is something I can do to help. Weekend assembly thrash or whatever.

pkabush 09-03-2015 09:41 AM

On the bright side, your car sounds absolutely glorious.
It seems like your bases are covered but, LMK if you don't get it sorted in time. We can slap my 3LDZ on there so you can make RS. Either way your gonna have a ***** eating ear to ear grin on your mug from here to Cali. I so wish I could make the trek :(
