The nuts holding the case halves together look like regular 8x1.25mm nuts. The original case half nuts are the self locking all steel ones where the rounded off top edge is squished together a little to make friction on the threads once the nut is threaded all the way on the stud. I've heard them called "prevailing torque" lock nuts.

I've seen nylocks used there too.
Hopefully the ones you have on there will not eventually vibrate loose. Maybe they were installed with loctite so that should work too.
Otherwise you could remove one nut at a time and replace it with a prevailing torque or nylock nut for peace of mind and for it to look correct.

Good luck with it!

The builder of my motor knows what he's doing, so he has my full trust. Considering he's been maintaining two 935s and a 962 (on top of many 930s) - none of the have shaken apart on the vintage race circuit or road. :)

JFairman 12-18-2015 10:08 AM

They're probably installed with a drop of red loctite on the threads then.

Race mechanics and aircraft mechanics use red loctite or safety wire through little holes drilled in the nuts.
You don't want to loose a race or crash a plane because a nut came loose :)

Going down a game trail on the slippery slope: decided AAR is a stupid design, so replaced it with a factory 964 turbo IACV. The upshot is no more bu!!$h¡t idle weirdness.

Got the 964 turbo IACV working today. It is just amazing what a luxury a dynamic and responsive idle controller is when you can take temp and throttle position into account.

TurboKraft 01-06-2016 01:10 PM

Yes!

And it'll be that much better again when you update those silly injectors! ;-)

kenikh 01-06-2016 01:17 PM

Do me a favor. Show me a pic of the most stock looking EFI install you've seen.

jpnovak 01-06-2016 01:45 PM

Your worried about idle and you apparently have not even turned up the boost to a normal level. Where are your priorities?

...and I agree 100% with Chris.

jpnovak 01-06-2016 01:47 PM

And I can't believe you used the word "Luxury" in reference to a 930.

kenikh 01-06-2016 02:06 PM

You're all colluding against me. I'm wise to your tricks.

Butt, that clear/woven, soda fountain hose (maybe it's black, not sure) connecting the crank case breather pipe to the oil tank does not look stock, bro - shame on youse!!! Other than that, your engine bay looks entirely OEM (NOT!)! :D

kenikh 01-06-2016 02:30 PM

I'll come clean. I like metal pipes to my fuel injectors. MFI ruined me.

Ronnie's.930 01-06-2016 02:44 PM

^^^

I'm right there with ya' about liking the look of the dinosaur-tech system. I've got a truck with an old school, International diesel engine that has MFI - always liked how it looks, too.

Woops, I'm so neglectful. I didnt already mention that boost is now at .9 BAR and knock control is operational, as well.

We're also doing FrankenCIS right now on the targa, so will have first hand experience on that very shortly. That experience will inform how we proceed with fueling on the 930.

Here you go:

Just kidding, this is more OE looking.
Doesn't have your metal fuel lines to all 6 injectors, through.

I'm starting to grow weary of Electromotive. Their faulty coil packs fry a friends motor with no recourse. Then this week, my TPS won't post to the CPU, so we upgrade the firmware and voila, the TPS works. The problem? The knock sensors have stopped posting the to CPU. After I went to all the trouble of swapping out the Bosch knock sensors (didn't work) for GM.

WHAT THE FCUK

kenikh 01-22-2016 03:22 PM

Problem seems to be solved with the knock sensors - a mis-dialed parameter was making the knock sensors shut off at 900 RPM, soooo...that resolved, I drove the car today for the first time on full boost. My impressions are best summarized by:

This was the car, now idling as smoothly as a Hyundai, with a smooth drone of beautiful, Zorky goodness to set the mood:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1dSu_slqf40" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The AFRs are little lean at idle and before fuel dump from the delay solenoid, but that will be resolved tomorrow.

Bottom line: this is the fastest car I have ever been in and has exceeded all expectations in terms of speed and character. And it isn't even tuned yet.

Happy as a clam:

sweet - sounds good

upper right bank valves sound a tick loose? (pun intended lol)

next up: ride height 8-)

^ just adjusted. Will listen more closely.

A bearded one?!?!

Great news about your car - Teflon passengers' seat installed yet? Might need a driver's side one, too!

krasuskyp 01-22-2016 06:43 PM

just seemed to sound a tad more clackety than clickety whenst you rounded that corner of the car w/ the camera

kenikh 01-23-2016 12:19 AM

Agree. Don't remember hearing it in person.

This seems like a good idea. What controls the IACV in a car with CIS?

kenikh 05-01-2016 11:33 AM

My car useS CIS for fuel, but has an EMS for spark which can also handle an IACV.

Haha, not it just made me think about watching my daughter eat pancakes. No matter how hard she tries, the syrup ends up everywhere.

A product that removes anti-seize residue from almost all surfaces (including fabric, leather, etc), without damaging the surface, is Honda Polish.

Bernie had it disabled on the stock unit. And the car holds and dumps boost just fine. So...why?

16Volt 05-05-2017 08:09 AM

Because the plate and diaphragm being exposed to the elements is a bad idea. If you get moisture in there the little screws attaching the diaphragm to the valve will corrode.

Just run a hose up into the engine bay (just like the stock wastegate).

Just completed 2800 miles in the 930. Ended up being an emergency back up, when the SC ended up having serious CIS issues. Really didn't want such a major trip to be the shakedown, but when fate forces your hand, you nut up.

Only real prep was spending the Saturday before Monday's departure putting in a cobbled together interior, which would be only to keep the drone of the road noise down.

Overall, issues were minimal. Lost a starter in Bend, OR. Ordered one a stop ahead and had it installed the next day in Medford. Always buy new Bosch! They rock. Another random occurrence was the crank sensor deciding to walk into the crank wheel...not sure how that happened, but here's the road side troubleshooting.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...94f087619b.jpg
