Back to original special wishes color

I purchased my 79' 930 over 15 years ago and at some point earlier in it's life it had a windows out color change to Guards red. It has always bothered me that it wasn't original, so about a year ago I decided to strip her down and put her back to original.
The color was a special wishes color and is very unique. I can't wait to get her back on the road. Hopefully, I'll have it back from the paint shop in 2 more weeks and the re-assembly can begin.

Thats a really nice color. Kind of a mustard gold metalic. Back in the mid seventies I knew someone with a 911S in a similar color.

Under florescent lighting inside it has more of a gold influence, but outside it has that Lamborghini pearl yellow look. It does have a lot of pearl in it. I really like the way it shows the body lines. It's definitely going to difficult to "blend in" with traffic.

That's crazy that someone would have changed a color as unique as that for a 930 to guards red.

What color is your interior?

Looking forward to seeing the results.

Chris.

Looks very cool and unique!
You made a wise decision to return it to the original Special Wishes color.

My first 930 ( 1979 in 92 ) was a very similar color. It was referred to as hell bronze metallic. The guy I bought it from @ Rick Cole's ( now RM ) Monterey auction also looked like Gold Finger. Very cool color.

Who wouldn't dig this? Looks like a color from a mid-sixties Hot Wheels car - and one that oughta work great on a 930!

All,
Thanks for the supporting comments. I'm really digging the color as well. Where the 70's influence comes in is the interior... It's cork, which is a nice interior color, just doesn't compliment the exterior very well.

Really like the color and can't wait to see it finished!

What are your plans for interior?

The interior is still original with the exception of the seats which I've replaced with some black Recaro SRD's. Still kicking around the idea of integrating a little more black on the inside, but original is original.

Yes, I remember, my interior was cork leather and carpets even the dash leather. Headliner was light tan/creme.

Kas are the wheelhouses and trunk/engine compartment still the original color or were they tampered with too?
Beautiful color, BTW.

That's a really unique color!
My old red rocket had a strange OEM color that is best described as avacado green. The interior was this baseball glove orangish tan color. It was hideous! I changed it to guards red / black and never looked back. Yours is much easier on the eyes.

Paul,
The wheel wells were sprayed with black undercoating. I have found that gasoline, a rag and a lot of elbow grease will clean that off, but I will have to spray the wells again. I have done thee dvr side front a couple years ago (when I started putting the plan in place for the repaint). I'm going to at least do the pass side front as well, but may follow thru and do both rears while I'm at it.

Wow, can't wait to see it back the original color, it looks like a more modern sports car hue. I hope it has fuchs, I can imagine black fuchs looking really good with that colour. If you have modern wheels, I think it will make the paint look like you updated that too. If that makes any sense.

Great color and pretty gutsy move given all involved. Can't wait to see the finished product and hope it's exactly what you want and expect.

Believe it or not, this is what I started out with before I started stripping her down. I wanted to do some more mods to my custom IROC tail, so I'm planning to put the factory tail back on. I've tossed around the idea either painting the wheels centers flat black or going with some RSR style wheels. I'm open to suggestions.
