Please help me find this car

I am needing help finding a car I sold around 6 or 7 years ago. The best I remember, the car may have went to Virginia or maybe a surrounding state. I have beat myself up ever since selling it, and would like to see if I can find it. I would like to have this car back if the opportunity was available.
The car is a 84 Carrera widebody with a 930 motor.
Thanks for any help Mark

A Carfax is the first thing I thought of. I had a local dealership run one for me, and they say it comes up as NOT FOUND.
I called Hagerty and got the Vin number, they had the car insured for me. So unless they had the wrong number, it is WP0ZZZ91ZES140258
Thanks again for any help.

Is it a RoW grey market car? Because that would normally explain the absence of internet based records.

However, from your picture, it looks like a U.S. market car. If you think it went to VA, try calling the state DMV there to run it, and hopefully find when it was last registered.

Check to see if what you have is actually the VIN or the chassis number. The three Z's after WPO are filler characters. It appears like that on the chassis stamp, however sometimes can differ from whats on the VI plate. On later Porsches they're different between VIN and chassis number, however this may not be the case on this vintage. Ask an owner of another '84 Targa if they are supposed to be the same or not, if different that could explain the lack of records. If they do differ, the three Z's can usually be filled in just by general knowledge of the car. (Typically one is for the year, maybe if a turbo or not, whether Targa, Coupe or cab, etc.) I don't know though, what you have could be the VIN. Just another thing to check.

Edit: Looks like here's your answer: What's the real VIN Number?

I'll keep my eyes out for your white Targa. Near me I've seen what looks to have maybe started as a white SC Targa, 83 or 84, then poorly converted to a slant Cab. However that car looks like its been sitting for at least a decade.

On the plus side, your car has an 81+ federalized VIN number, which makes it a lot easier to find than an earlier car.

I am doing the same sorta thing - Searching for a 1969 T .

Good luck!

Take care!

The car is for sure a grey market car, the guy I bought it from was from Hilton Head SC, and he had it brought over to the best of my understanding. I will try calling VA DMV and see what they have to say.

If its a grey market car then the true VIN and chassis stamp number may be the same, but also may not, I don't know. However, sometimes grey market cars are assigned a completely different VIN by the U.S. or state DMV. Sometimes a sticker is put on the driver's door jamb. That is something to look into as well.

Take care!

Don't know if it helps or not, but it's got Euro side lights on the fenders. I can't imagine anyone would go out of their way to fit them on a US car, so ROW is my bet.
Good luck with the hunt.

Still looking

Hey guys,
I am still trying to find this car, and do not have anything other than this picture to go on. So I am posting it up again with hopes of maybe a sighting.
Car is a 84 Carrera Targa widebody with a 3.3 Turbo transplant. The seats have 911 embroidered into the head rest.
If anyone knows anything about this car, I would be very appreciated for info.
