Intersting DP on BaT Auction

3500-Mile 1981 Porsche Kremer DP 935 | Bring a Trailer

Intereting one on BaT. Something about the importation being faciliated by Andretti. Tony i'm sure you have some comments since you have the real deal Andrettti car.

Sorry guys, but it looks like a "car kit" to me with that front fender gap and those headlights. I also doubt the 3.5K miles due to the hood and bonett alignment, swin arms stains, seats leather condition, bilstein shocks condition, exhaust manifold nuts... I know... I know...

Garage
still has the p-7's! I like the car but certainly needs some front suspension attention.

Tires have always been available. either Pirelli p7 345/35/15 rears 225/50/15 fronts, or Michelin TB15, 335/35/15 or 295/40/15 rears, and 215/50/15 fronts.
The front fenders should be f/g not steel.
As far as street legal you would need to check with the state headlight height law. I've seen one with the same front registered in Nevada a bunch of years ago. I don't thing it would pass in CA, along with meeting the smog laws.
I'd have a bunch if I could afford it.

it amazes me how a 3500 mile car can have baked on oil leak stains on the gearbox

looks like someone took the fancy kremer built IC and put an original one back on.

Most likely the mileage claim is a straight up lie, or someone intentionally added all of the engine and undercarriage grime to the car to give it a "vintage" look.

And maybe putting the stock intercooler back on was someone's first step towards, to paraphrase another poster in a different thread, returning the car to factory original condition, as these cars deserve nothing less.

Or maybe the seller shares ole' Robby's opinion that the OEM intercooler is the best money can buy (since it's black, and what Porsche used, of course).

I didn't read the build sheet, but it may have not had the big IC.. these cars by both Kremer, or DP were build to taste.. or should I say wallet? Some were just the body kit, while others got and exhaust and/or IC, while others got a full blown build.
Some were even done on SCs.. body not quite as wide etc.. I had one of those in the 90's that was built on an SC Targa no-less w/a mildly tweeked 3.0

Agree, doubt it has 3500 miles.

And fitted the mid-year Sport Seats, instead of the SC/early 3.2 Sports you'd expect in a car built after 1978 and before they switched to the later type in 1985 or so...

Should have a numbered Kremer intercooler and a build sheet like this and maybe a plaque identifying who it was built for. However not being a historian or expert, like others have said they built DP cars based upon what customers wanted, so it could be a fairly basic low budget build. In the letter from Kremer it states what it should have if they built it but not that this car has it and does not verify that Kremer built it. Lots of smoke and mirrors in his description.

As far as the $419K ask in DuPont, who knows what value some place on advertised low miles, they just might get the blue sky price others have been paying , but on this one i doubt it.

Lots of things that are claimed in the description seem so different than what I have read or experienced. DP was especially known for Kevlar body mods. I think the seller is I know I am about this car.

If someone knows Mr Andretti maybe they can get him to comment on the car.

Or Roger Penske as he was also mentioned. On the miles some things look like low miles and could be fairly close as time and storage conditions do take their toll. Still in the description, it seems like lots of conjecture mixed in, to put it politely. It is what it is, a virtually unused "new on MSO" expensive special built long ago, so someone just might get interested in working out a deal for it.

I was also drooling over the DP targa when it was on ebay The original owner had listed it on my site in '07, asking was $55K. I was willing to trade my coupe for it, oh well.
There are 3 nicer DP's for sale in the $120-150K asking price.
