930 Resurrection after 9 years. Introduction to the forum

Hello Everyone,

I've always wanted a Porsche project, and boy do I have one now.

This rough gem is a 1979 Porsche 930 that I picked up from Fresno, CA. The owner claims it ran when parked 4 years ago, but I suspect it was actually 9 years as the registration was from '05! She will now be carefully resurrected in Orange County, CA.

I'm still in the process of assessing the condition.

I've always kept up on this forum but thought I should finally register now that I finally own a Porsche.

I wanted to say hello to everyone and also thank everyone ahead of time as I might be asking for help but will also contribute where ever possible.

Cheers!

Welcome, I too was in your shoes two years ago with a six-month recreation I have been driving her ever since. I can honestly tell you my perception of life since owning and driving this car has never been the same. Don't take any crap from anybody as to how you do it just do it so that it makes you happy. And drive it till the wheels fall off.

Nice find! Welcome aboard. Restore it however you like, but, do it right. There is nothing better than the kick from a good running 930.

Thanks Everyone!

For those who want to know a little more on the details.

Current Condition:
Paint is a 6 footer. A repaint was done at some point but must have been done outdoors. There are so many fish eyes in the paint its crazy, and microscopic gravel/debris.

Interior is in pretty good condition, but needs a little tlc, the rear seat padding has disintegrated. Haven't been able to source the padding on the bottom part of the original rear seats. Its like cork that turned into horse hair.

Engine: ???? I'm hoping the engine isn't ceased, on a positive note when I push the car the the heat exchanger and crank rotate. Engine has 93k on it. Looks like someone did put the carrera tensioner upgrade on it, but can only tell by the hole pattern on the left case housing.

The previous owner tried upgrading the ac to a rennaire, but never finished. So the barrier lines are hanging all over the bottom. Will need to sort that out.

As for the other hurdle, which is the electrical. Everything seems to work, however when I opened the hood. The wires and terrible alarm install made me curse like crazy. Its a rats nest of wires all over! I frankly don't know where to begin, especially since the previous owner seems to have upgraded some of the wiring per the suggested tech article on this forum. Some major detective work there.

Plans:
Other than the rennaire, I plan to restore it to its original glory. Then drive it until the wheels fall off, as hobie911 mentioned.

Good luck, nice wheels. If it were me the WUR would be removed and the screen and valve would be dismantled and cleaned since it is probably gummed up. JMHO
