Jim,

I'm curious if the port adjuster that was tightened all the way in was port #4?

If so --- after you rebuilt the fuel head is port #4 still the limiting port that all the other ports need to be adjusted to match (giving the most flow but yet still balanced)?

Thanks for the info!

What I've read was that Porsche was in tremendous financial trouble in '89 mostly due to antiquated product design and assembly methods. They are a small company and didn't have the manpower or budget to develop the 965 3.6 EFI Turbo engine alongside the n/a 964 engine they were developing to launch the new car.
The 930 was the company's cash cow ($40-50k premium for not a lot of extra content) but was going out of production with the other accordion-bumpered cars. The 930 engine could still meet the U.S. emissions standards almost as-is so they went ahead and developed the 965 for minimum cost, as a way to bring much-needed capital into the company.

No it wasn't #4, it was one of the other 3mm spring tension adjuster that was tightened all the way. Then the rest of them were between 1/2 turn to almost tightened all the way to match the one that was tightened all the way.

Hi - I'm about to rebuild (more like repair) the FD on my 964 3.6T. I seem to have amateur houred it using carb cleaner to get plunger unstuck and melted an o-ring or something inside FD. Can't get combustion in cylinder #5 - spark has been checked. Either getting too much fuel or none.

I've read 100 pages on the topic today, and the one thing I am concerned about is making sure I can get even flow at all air levels when done. Can one adjust flow with it all back together using the under-the-cap-on-top adjustment screws? Or is part of the calibration meant to be completely internally?

You take the injectors out and place them to collect in small jars - like 100-150ml. Hook the lines back on, switch the pumps on and depress the airplate - anywhere you want - 1/2 to WOT. Collect about 50-70ml of fuel and measure each jar. That will tell you where your FD is at regarding #5 (and all others).

Get a rebuild kit for it and do it.
The aluminum fuel heads are relatively easy. A bench vice to hold it while taking it apart and tightening it's bolts when it goes back together is needed. Wash laquer thinner is easy to find and works good for cleaning.

With stiff lines not easy to put injectors close by in small jars, needs not to twist the stiff lines.

It is no problem, easy done. Ping the plastic retainer clips off to let the lines flex a bit, plenty of movement available. Done it dozens of times - different fuel heads/rebuilt heads etc.
