Help on a 78 Turbo Question

I have a 1978 Turbo, needing a new turbo....I cannot find the 3LDZ...anywhere, new or rebuild...

Anybody have one for sale ....and knows it works?
I refuse to use the K27 replacement....I know how much it improves the car...but I want a drop in, original car.

Mine must be the second one because it starts with 88

3LDZ 319C11.1
88 553 0171
5222 980 3100.....part number.

Thanks

New? Rebuilt? There are thousands of cores holding doors open on shops around the world. There is a reason for that ...

Durabilt - been around for ever, done 3K turbo rebuilds for many on this forum, steller reputation overall.

The reason is that the stock, 3LDZ is a bottom of the barrel turbocharger in terms of performance, and most people are glad to be rid of them.

The reason there are so many cores laying around is they were crappy turbos that were commonly replaced.
Durabilt still rebuilds the 3LDZ and does a good job.

Durabilt is where the IMSA teams had their 935 and 962 turbos rebuilt back in the day and still do for vintage racing.

They have the computer controlled VSR high speed turbo cartridge balancing machine and use it during their rebuilds. If original 3k 3ldz journal bearings are not available anymore then they make them.
FWIW, they don't use parts made in Asia.

The difference between the 3LDZ and k27 7200 is like a pussy cat and a lion,so it really depends on what you prefer...

Because they are more compact than wasted RX7 rotor housings, but roughly equal in useless mass and thus will do roughly the same job of securing a door against a moderate breeze. They also do an acceptable job of holding a small boat stationary in the water when attached to a length of rope.

The KKK 3LDZ was cutting edge technology... for diesel tractors 40 years ago. It's only value to a 930 owner in 2016 is for originality purposes.

I have a K27 High Flow by Ultimate Motorwerks if your interested. Bought new, only about 8 hours of run time on it. Changing to a twin scroll setup.
