Wideband 02 bung location...does it matter?
Prior threads on placing bung before or after turbo... this is a different question...
Assuming you place the bung after the turbo, does location matter? Should it be right after the turbo? Not a lot of space there... After the muffler? What about on systems with dual exhausts? Does it matter which side? One exhaust is shorter than the other... I see exhausts for sale on ebay with the bung within 6 inches of the exhaust tips... does that get accurate results? Thanks! |

Further away from exhaust valve just means you have to account for latency.
This can be tricky |

Right after the Turbo with a spacer to get the probe out of the exhaust stream.

^^^^ Yes, what he said. Get the 'extension' so the probe is out of direct flow. I've burned up a few with it hanging in in the air stream.

If you have dual exhaust it doesnt work at idle. to set the idle AFR i had to make a plug for the one exhaust outlet that didnt have the bung in it. It kept sucking air from the other pipe. but data logging going down the road driving worked fine.

Mine is in the same spot as Steves (also on a zork). I think you want to be as far upstream in the exhaust flow as possible. It still gives sensible numbers on idle on the zork.
I have not spaced mine up off the zork. I am still on my first probe - after several track years, and extreme EGT temps. Guys - what is the importance of raising it up? BPU699, yes, mine is very close to the shroud (I actually have another heat shield sandwich before the shroud)- just angled off to allow the wires a bit of free movement. I drilled a hole thru the shroud and routed mine thru the lid latch gap. Alan

Interesting. Which side sucks?

If yours is reading fine, I wouldn't worry about it. You probably have a much more robust sensor than my LC-1. I think raising it up out of the jet stream helped keep it a little cooler. ??
Mine's in the same spot as Steve's with a zork, too.

Use one of these in the location that has been mentioned previously:
Stainless Steel O2 Sensor Bung | AEM These are tall enough to just get the tip of the sensor flush with the inside diameter of the pipe. Do not mount the sensor pre-turbo unless you have a controller with exhaust back pressure compensation built in, the increased pressure will skew the readings.

You drive on the street with a zork
![]() Your neighbors must love you ![]() Oops!...don't you hate misinformation? I forgot I had to move it over when I went to the Zork so I found a new pic. I love the sound of my zork! Even in my very restricted hoa I don't get any flack. If I hear anything from my neighbors it's "cool car". The day I threw the muffler in the attic was a great day. ![]()

both it bounces back and forth between exhaust pulses. So just plug the one oposite of the sensor.
