Throttle linkage question

SHOULD THERE BE ANY PLAY IN THROTTLE LINKAGE ROD AT BELL CRANK. I HAVE 2. THE CORRECT ROD WITH BEND SEEMS LONG. I HAVE LARGE TURBO CV. THE STRAIGHT ONE HAS NO PLAY 1/2 IN. SHORTER. BUT COMES CLOSE TO CV JOINT.

There needs to be a small amount of play but no where near the play in the first picture. Maybe 1/4 inch.
Check the position on the bell crank on the intake manifold and see if you can adjust the linkage from that bell crank to the cross bar. You may find enough adjustment there to make the curved rod work properly.

When you're all done, have a friend press on the accelerator to verify full throttle.
The best way to get maximum performance is to get full throttle.

The rod with the bend looks like the rod for the G50 transmission. The bend is there because the transmission is a bit longer which brings the rod closer to the CV axle shaft. You've got a 915 trans so I think you should be using the straight rod w/out the crescent-shaped bend in it.

got it all adjusted now. I was told I have the correct linkage if I had the larger CV joints. which I do. The curve is to clear axle.

The curved link rod was used on 911 from 69 to 73 .
Over the years some got replaced with straight rods but IIRC the curved ones even came on sportomatic cars.

From 75 to 77 the 2.7 liter engines in Ca. came with thermal reactors and those cars had thick exhaust flanges. That means to run a 71 SSI on those engines you will have to change the exhaust studs. Other than the potential for stud issues, SSI heater boxes are universal.

Curved link rod was definitely used on the 87 to 89 G50 cars. I had an '87 and I bought a replacement rod with the parts diagram part number and it was also curved.

Seems that it would make sense the curved rod reappeared in '86 when the CV axles were upsized from 100mm CVs to 108mm

69-73 used large flange CV joints similar to turbo and later G50.
The difference was that the CV joints used 4 10 mm bolts and two locator pins instead of 6 10mm bolts.

.

For sure, theres a lot of slack to be found if the bellcrank bushes top and bottom if they are toast, the addition of wear in the ball linkages tends to increase the "lost motion" in the whole system afterall.

Seems like a good place to ask, will a bell crank off of a 915 work on a G50?
