apparently so. they were on the car when i bought it. i asked around when i noticed it and the consensus i got from the people i respect was possibly end of the 3.2l engines started getting 964 parts or they were replaced at some point due to possible wear in the past. i never dug any deeper than asking my mentors and getting the above as an answer. sorry i do not have anything more definitive, maybe bruce or henry could shed some light on this question.

Interesting, I guess as long as it is still threaded to take the plug at one end and the oil restrictor insert at the other, I guess everythign else is still the same.. ish?

My October-1988 3.2L has the same P/N on the cam/rocker housing.

The 964 number is just a casting number. When Porsche transitions from one model to the next they quite often use the newer casting to make parts for previous models.

Generally a 964 cam tower will not fit an earlier engine (cam feed plumbing is different) but we came up with a solution.

drbrian has now received his new baby. I am proud to see her tucked away safely in her new garage amongst her new siblings! He certainly has impeccable taste!!!
