need to rebuild garret BB turbo--where to send it?
I am blowing smoke from the turbine side of my garret ball bearing GTX37R turbo that is on my 3.4 liter build.
The oil is leaking past the turbine side oil seal and is burning in the zork tube exhaust under deceleration. the problem gets worse when i am running on the track since i am on heavy boost and then slamming the throttle closed. Oil is also leaking past the center section and turbine housing junction and running down the outside of the center housing and dripping on the exhaust and smoking. I had rebuilt the exhaust side of the turbo a year ago when I replaced the piston ring oil seal and that initially stopped the smoking, but it lasted only 6 months before it started smoking slightly and now the problem is pretty severe again. I suspect the turbine shaft might be worn and causing the problem with the seal ring since i did not replace the turbine shaft when i put in the new seal ring the first time. Its not leaking past the compressor side as that is dry as a bone. its definitely the turbine side oil seal. I am at the point I want a turbo shop to do the job for me this time and balance the assembly as well when the job is done. I need you guys help in giving me the information on a qualified and reputable turbo rebuilder to do the work for me. Can anyone help me out? I want to start this job right away and be ready to remount it by end of February. thanks, Fred

For Porsche turbos we've had success using Charlie @ Evergreen

Hi Fred,
Charlie is the best out there on BW-KKK turbos, but he doesn't rebuild the ball bearing turbochargers. Our local builder can disassemble it, spec out the shaft to see if it is worn, re-seal and reassemble it. If it needs a new shaft/turbine, those aren't available separately and you'd be looking at buying a new "supercore" (CHRA). There are other companies rebuilding these turbos with aftermarket turbine wheels, bearings, etc. but we've seen mixed results: sometimes they last, sometimes they start bowing smoke under boost.
