Whenever possible, we design our pistons to use Goetze ring packs.
That means we generally don't use shelf pistons from JE or CP. 80mm (2.0) 84mm (2.2-2.4) 90mm(2.5-2.7), 95mm (3.0-3.2) 97mm (3.1-3.3) 100mm 3.5-3.6, 102mm (3.8) are all designed using the Goetze ring packs. Strangely enough, Mahle makes most of the OE rings in their Brazilian factory. They are cheaper than the Goetze but "cheaper" is rarely our goal. Ten years from now, factory/stock rings will still be available.

In the short time sinse I posted about preferring Geotze rings, I've gotten 4 email.
The gist of the questions is why Geotze. Availability is one major reason but the other main reason is the one piece oil ring. The 3 piece oil rings used by most manufacturers state that you shouldn't adjust the gap. With the one piece oil ring, gapping is SOP.
