'72/'73 2.4L/2.7L GE Head Gasket

What is correct side to face cylinder head? The GE head gasket on a 1973 2.4/2.7 that seal the cylinder to the head is not symmetrical. One side of gasket seem longer and sharper, and hides the spring inside the gasket. The other side seems a bit rounder and there is a bit of exposed spring. The gasket sits proud of groove in cylinder with spring in and fit inside with spring out. Thank you.

You most assuredly want the edge that sets proud so there is some crush taking place Bruce Last edited by Flat6pac; 07-03-2022 at 04:48 PM..

It actually sits proud regardless of side. Is there a definitive side that faces the head?

Long edge to the cylinder, but it really doesn’t matter

Long edge to cylinder feels better than other way around.
