I didn't know there was a Royal blue, do you mean Albert blue? Albert can be considered as "royal" I suppose...
The only other non-metallic dark blue from that era was Dalmatian (ossi, oxford).
Is the car for sale? Got his email address? ;)

This is a home made mounting point for that fuel pressure regulator.

Phe,

I'm asking about the orange goop under the homemade mounting plate. By the way, I LOVE the plate!

Also, to the lower left in the photo, I was hoping your mechanic had replaced the o-ring seal on the oil relief valve. I only ask because there is new hardware everywhere except on that plate. Very cheap insurance. Thank you!

Ok so this is the one.

We even had a spare, but we didn't change anything (just the screw for fun) As it was perfect before, not touched.

Thanks for the remark, I have learned a little more today.

Phe,
Been on vacation, just got back to look at your posts. Just one word, bit-tch-in. (thats good, ignore the dashes, for the word editor, censor, that still messes up but whatever)

The car is back on the road since Thursday.

Going slowly, 3000-3200 rpm, I have done about 900 Km, it is really good the hear the great new sound of my car. Carb "noise" is crasy.

This morning I have tried some little pushs, the rev limiter is at 6000 for the next 3000Km, the car is amaising, a lot better than expected, in fact I beleive that the car was really bad before the rebuild, because now, even with a lot of reserves and conservative acceleration, this is a real dream.

I feel like :

Track season is back so after a long winter, I am back.

I wanted to thank you all again. The engine is great.

There are some pictures from "LE MANS" track last week-end.

As you can see the driver is happy !!

Big babies on track (I am the second on the right)

Still have huge bearbox problem (from now 3 rebuild under waranty) The change for a 7/31 and limited split diff on my 915 cause some problems, but every thing else is great

(close to 40.000km with the new engine, I do not want to drive another car)

Phe, is that secret black goo that you sealed the case with leaking? Any other oil leaks?

ischmitz 04-20-2004 01:06 PM

Just how much money did you spend on that rebuild? It's got to be at least five figures in Euro when I look at all the parts......

no oil leaks, since now I didn't had to had any oil between services (8500km)

As the mechanic says, "it goes surprisingly good." (...)

The total cost for engine, gearbox, seats was about 22.000€
killing parts in order:
gearbox (7/31 and diff spli) 7/31 new OUUUCH
pistons/cylindres
Carbs

suspension, brakes exhausts where already there.

Wow, That is awsome phe, thanks for posting all the pictures as they were extremely helpful. So let me ask this question:

What are you going to do next?

phe 05-06-2004 12:07 AM

Drive, drive, drive.

In fact the balance power/handling/braking of the car is good for a regular driver like I am.

So next step will be as much kilometer on track as possible. A small part of the kilometers with instructor. For that I will probably have to divorce and sell some of my children, I will see, but there will be some negociations :)
