Chain box questions.

I have a 67 engine. Aluminium with a warped or damaged box. I cant fix a minor oil leak. These boxes are impossible to get.
Can I fit later boxes to it.
Ideally just swap everything over. New boxes, base gasket and cover gasket.
Is this possible.
Thanks lyndon

In general, yes. The later boxes have an additional stud to hold them to the case. I think guys add that additional stud. Or you could ignore it. There are some variations in the number and size of the studs for the cover. All that can be dealt with.

However, neither the cast aluminum case nor the chain boxes and covers from that era seem subject to the warping and other problems the mag case engines had. It might be a good idea to check to see if all these mating surfaces are true before giving up on them. A shop could true any of these (case surfaces would be the hardest/most involved).

Where exactly is the minor leak?

My left cover ? Or where the case mates the case. In this area I have consist drops after parking.
I think it's been rear ended as it's a 911S engine, not to this car. The box and case are warped. I had it looked at and repaired and is much better but I still have a minor leak. So I was thinking some new boxes.

We have adapted late boxes to early aluminum cases for years. Mainly for racing applications but also to facilitate the addition of pressure fed tensioners.
We have also gone the other way, early boxes on late cases to recreate a nostalgic appearance.

If all else fails, we have pristine, early chain boxes on the self.
Center feed and blank covers as well.
