rebuild complete- starting and power issues

3.2 rebuild is done- runs very smoothly, but..... - 2 issues

1. cold start now takes forever!- before rebuild, was instant start- i changed nothing in injection or intake system!- just lifted off and re-installed- warm start is perfect, just like before

2. am not getting nearly as much power on acceleration out of engine as i should be- it is smooth enough, and revs fine, but not what we all know we should feel

any ideas?- connection between the two?- how to diagnose?

thanks!!

It could be the temperature sensor. I also believe at some point Porsche changed the sensor from one wire to 2 wire to improve grounding.
Resistance test varies with temperature.

Are you getting WOT at the throttle body when the gas pedal is fully depressed?

Pretty common for throttle cable to be out of adjustment after an engine R&R

Interesting thought re temp sensor. It's the plug into #3 ,right? It was on my list of things to look at since I am not getting any temp indication on gauge. The wire (it's single) was compromised (cut) twice: once to facilitate removal of engine tin, and again because the connector at #3 intake was brittle and destroyed. So I butt-spliced it. See any problem with that connection method?

And any other thought as to why no temp display at gauge?

Thx!

Cutting and splicing the wire for head temp will change the resistance which is what is being measured by the ECU. Since the single wire uses engine ground for the ground side you should check that you have good engine grounding as well. You should replace the cylinder head temp sensor since the wire has been cut.
The temp gauge uses a different sensor so different problem. Gauge is easy to trouble shoot and plenty of threads on how to do if you search.

I can't say that is your problem, but it should be done. Porsche switched to a 2 wire sensor because of issues with the single wire unit. I would definitely want to change one with a splice.
It is a bit difficult due to the sensors location and the wires attached to it. The socket needs to be a deep one with a slit in it for the wires, and another thing was the new sensor uses a different size socket than the old single wire sensor.

Other things to check besides possible air leaks is to make sure the throttle linkage, full throttle switch, and idle switch on the throttle body are set correctly.
One other thing I read about is a brown wire by the DME under the seat. It is for California emissions. It should be unplugged, except on cars that have to be smogged in California.
