Weekends rebuild progress
Lots of progress this weekend. Got the short block completed, went together pretty easy. Have to see what I can do this week.

My only concern over the weekend was when I put the head studs in. Some of them I just needed to use my fingers to twist the studs in most of the way, just needing a wrench for the last few turns. The loctite 271 has them in place solid now. Guess I expected a little more resistance.

We chased the threads before inserting the studs. All studs went in easily by hand and the loctite is still doing it's job.

Is it acceptable to chase case savers? My last set of case savers were so tight, I could not get the studs to 135mm. After chasing them, I was concerned that they were not tight enough to stay-put. I was using my Snap-on collet-style stud installer, so the tool what not the problem.

John,
I chased the stud holes with a tap before I installed the new studs. There was quite a bit of old Loctite in the holes, which the tap easily removed. The new studs threaded in with fingertips. After the break-in period was up, I checked the stud torques.....all of them were right on spec.

Cool, that's where I'm at on my 2.0L rebuild.
Of course I've been at this stage for a good three weeks now... I'm taking my time ![]()

Nope, they are steel, magnet sticks to them. Epoxy coated steel.
