different 225mm fan housing

anyone have any idea what this housing was for? the one on the left is from my 79, the one on the right i intended on using as a replacement, but has a smaller diameter where the shroud meets, and at rear of the band. both have same casting numbers

Possibly the one on the right was machined down to a smaller diameter. Not much you can do in that case.

What you are looking at is an attempt to replicate the 906 fan housing.
The 906 used a unique fan housing, strap, 225mm fan and a special small fan shroud.
Reproductions are available from CarPoint DE.

I'll take it....All you need is a smaller strap, 225mm fan (which you can made out of any 245mm fan) and the 906 shroud w/side block offs.

Who knows? I'm don't have the housing in front of me. What I'm saying is, there was a 906 fan housing that was smaller in diameter than the conventional fan housing.
As for "being machined", I guarantee it is a stock housing that has been machined to a smaller diameter.
