Question Is This Motor Rebuildable?

This is my 1980 911 SC's motor. (The view is looking up into the case with the oil sump cover and sump screen removed.) Pictures are available here.

From these pictures you can see that a rod busted and did damage to the case. Can anyone speculate as to whether there is likely to be more case damage, and whether or not this motor (judging from the damage we can see here) is rebuildable?

Thanks for any input.

Joe,

Take it all apart and see. If you ask anyone’s opinion based on this they will tell you “I don’t know.”

Clearly there is serious damage. No one can offer an accurate opinion until you have everything disassembled, laid out, and inspected.

Best,
Grady

BTDT. There is a good chance you can rebuild it. You need to grind away any cracked metal (so it doesn't fall off later) and smooth the edges out. As with any engine failure you need to clean everything and I mean everything that the oil came in contact with.
