Bob used to do some work on my VW stuff. That was 20 years ago. When I spoke to him about an oil bypass mod., he wasn't interested. I'm on the windward-side. Where are you?
Aloha, Jon

Hey Jon, I live on Oahu, more specifically Salt lake near the airport.

I went to school with one of the machinists @ Snyders Machine shop and they don't do Porsche stuff.

Not to slander Bob @ PB but a motorcycle shop I used to hang out at gave them a cylinder head to do a valve job on and they bead blasted the whole thing including the cam bearing surfaces.

Japanese sportbikes don't have replaceable bearing shells as the bearing surfaces are integral parts of the head assembly. End result: very expensive paper weight.

Eventually, once I sell my Targa, I'm going to tear my SC engine down and do a 3.2SS using a kit from Henry. If I find my bottom end needs work I'll ship him that as well.

I'd rather pay extra and know it's right than have it done locally andhope it's right.
Take care
Tom

Ways that Have worked

I recently did a top end job on my car and clutch replacement. I didnt split the case. I appear to have the same leak .. Oil leaking from the bellhousing.. Im thinking its the Flywheel seal (what i call the mainshaft seal) I installed mine flush and dry.

What Id like to know is What HAS Worked for correct installation of this red/orange seal. I will Not be pulling the engine apart again, just pulling it out, taking the flywheel off and "correcting/fixing" this oil leak if possible.

After reading the entire post Here is what I was thinking of doing.

Put Curil T on the side of the Seal
Push the seal Further in than flush (as before) - or should I leave it further out than flush???
REassmble. Hope for the best.

What are your suggestions... What HAS worked for you?

THANKS!!! Good info on this post!
