Someone told me you could have the 3.2 DME reprogrammed to run the ignition only. Does anyone have experience with this set up and knows someone who can do it?

It seems reasonable that you could burn a new chip with a desirable advance curve and run your DME for ignition only but why would you. If you have a functioning DME brain and harness, why not sell it. They seem to sell used for anywhere between $600 and $800. Then take that money and buy a programmable crank fire unit. You will probably break even or a little ahead and end up with a much nicer arrangement.
That's my thought anyway.

Is there a programmable crank fire unit available for less than $1000. I've only heard of the Eletromotive TEC3 at around $2500.

Crane, Jacob's, MSD all make crank fire ignitions for less than $1000.
Electromotive Tec 3 is and engine management system. It controls the entire engine, spark, injectors, boost control, knock sensors etc. Electromotive also makes a stand alone, fully programmable crank fire that cost around $1100.

Henry,
So out of the ones you've mentioned, do you have a preference? Tinker |
