Dougherty Cams ??
Does anyone have any experience with Dougherty Cam Regrinds? I'm thinking of a 964 grind for the SC when I redo the top end this winter.

I used him to do my cams....964 on my 1988. Have not put them in, but I had them in a couple of weeks.

I only buy cams from John - I have had 3 new sets and 3 regrinds. All perfect. New cams are about $700, give or take if you need auxiliary drive (MFI/Power steering/oil scavenge).

FYI, if you do a search on this board you'll see that there was a period where he wasn't able to be as responsive as I'm sure he wished he could. That seems in the past, however.
I was personally extremely pleased with his work and I will use him again. |

I use only his cams, and have used many sets. Very pleased.
Plus, there is a pic of a really cool viper green 911 on the track on the site! ![]() ![]() Cheers

I had my SC cams reground to 964 specs by John. Very reasonable, timely, and a wealth of information during my top-end redo. Had the valve covers off earlier this month and inspected the cams which looked brand new so they are holding up well after 3 years.

John reground my SC cams to DC-19 profile (964 with additional lift). I also had him resurface and rebush rockers and shafts (you'll need to do this). Total cost was approx $700 shipped, if I remember correctly. Parts are all functioning well with no issues. Quality and service provided was excellent...

John reground a set of cams for me and consulted on some pretty fine points about the specifics of my engine. My cams were turned around in something like a week. He always answered the phone when I called.
The cams? Well, I just got home from the shop in fact, where the injection was being fine-tuned after the cam swap. I'm happy with the profile. More linear throttle response, higher top end, more well-mannered than my last cams.

+1 on John. He did my cams, re-bushed the rockers and polished the rockers shafts. Superb workmanship. He helped me solve a problem (rookie mistake) Highly recommended and will go back when I need work done.

Short version of the story. Worked there for 13 years, 10 years as the manager. Was told I would be able to buy the business. After 4 years of trying to come to terms on the sale, I decided to go out on my own. Nothing sinister or illegal.

there's a link on this thread regarding John's work -
3.0 dyno day - a pleasant surprise FWIW, what I really appreciated was that he LISTENED to what I wanted and then built me the cams for my application. too many vendors of all sorts will sell you what THEY think you need/want/should have. I didn't and still don't know anything about cams, I just told John I wanted an engine that pulled like a truck and I was willing to give up peak HP for a fat and flat torque curve. check out the above link to see what I got. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ps. I'm now talking to him about some cams for my 3.2 stroker MFI engine. |
