Asphalt, is the LS7 the one coming out with Ti rods. If it is thats got one hell of a laundry list worth of goodies in it.

Even if it is GM will muck it up somehow.

And with GM, they have teased the public so many times with super performance cars and never delivered. Don't beleive it untill you can buy it and even then double check it.

But who knows, their new Caddy is pretty slick and it really goes.

Jack, I love a challenge man! I will admit I'm a drag / street race guy. The road race thing really interests me though. I'd like to better my skills with a good instructor. For now I just have too many projects and too little $$

I plan on keeping my 6'er because the styling still looks fresh. Fifth Gear (the British TV show) did a bit on th 635 this past weekend that was very positive all around.

I think the new LS-7 is the ticket. I'm a Chevy guy anyway so for me it would be a natural fit in my BMW. Smooth idle, 427 CI, pump gas, more compact than a late BMW V-8 and really big power all the way 'round.

One things for sure....... I would never stick one in the back of a P-car. Long ago I had seen a few of these conversions and scratched my head in disbelief. I always wondered why someone would do that. I thought they were fast with a lot of aftermarket go-fast stuff available to go faster.

Yes, the new 2006 Z06's 7.0L (427 cu in) hand-built LS7 has titanium rods (only 479 grams each), dry-sump lubrication, titanium intake valves, sodium-filled exhaust valves, titanium pushrods and valvesprings, a 7000+ rpm redline, and 500 horsepower.

There is NO DOUBT I'D TAKE THAT LAME UNINFORMED BET!!!

It'l break before the first lap if its a Chevy production job. All sounds good, but wait, no one has one yet. ON the other hand you could get a 1960's Porsche with all the same stuff.

I'm always tinkering so this would be a natural progression on my 6-er. I will say one thing. I do like Chevys and they are as tough as anything else out there. If you look at their current technology they are making more power with a 2-valve, pushrod engine than any other manufacturer.

The leaf springs are transverse; very different from a pickup truck leaf spring arrangement. More like a Fiat 500

And its a composite leaf spring too. Its much lighter than a steel spring would be.

The most power out of a two valve pushrod engine is the 426 Dodge design used in top fuel engines.

The top fuel engines use a hemi head design that is similar in theory to the original 426 but not identical, and that's about where the similarity ends.
The block and lower end have more in common with a chevy than a chrysler, but it is neither in truth.
The cylinder spacing, stroke, twin plugs, manifolds, nothing is the same.
I doubt that a single part on a keith black top fuel engine would fit an original 426 hemi and versa visa.

Two valves per cylinder aren't all that bad when you have a turbo helping things along.

Umm..... how many automakers 'bother' with air-cooled engines anymore?

Does Porsche?

My 05 Caddy Escalade EXT pickup truck has a 6L 350HP 2 Valve engine. But come to think about it if Porsche ever made a 6L engine it would make about 600HP, naturally aspirtated.

They did impress me with their 5.7L 400HP Caddy V car, not to bad for a Chevy with 2 valves and their 4.6L 4 valve will be making 450HP with a super charger, a good start.

In fact I am rebuilding a 99 4.6L Caddy engine for a street rod. All the engine needs for 550HP is a manifold, a 680 cfm 4 barrel carb, reground cams, and reprogrammed spark control. And the engine can be had for between $25 ea and $400 ea depending on who you buy it from.

And thats on pump gas, stock compression, and a 229 degree at 0.050" cam. with 0.400" intake lift and 0.350" exhaust lift. Minor porting, ie removing all the sharp edges from the short side radius.

With all out race mods the engine can make over 900HP naturally aspirated!

FYI the mildly ported heads flow 261 cfm at 28" water at 0.4" intake and 174cfm at 0.350" lift exhaust at 28" water.

This is by the way more than a Lambrogini (sp) head.

But to be real about it GM probably made the heads out of white metal so they will melt at 350HP.

I still think adding a Chevy engine to a Porsche is sacrilegious, but here is one on eBay!

You would get my respect if you put a Porsche engine in a Camaro.. maybe a 300hp full alloy 928.

Or how about a Lycoming IO320 in a 911? Its a dry sump aircooled engine. I think they are cheap if they are out of time life hours

Rotorhead,
Why would you respect someone that put a Porsche 928 32V V8 in a Camaro? That engine is:
HEAVIER
WIDER
MORE COMPLEX
and has,
LESS PEAK HORSEPOWER
LESS PEAK TORQUE
LESS AREA UNDER THE POWER CURVE

than the stock LS1 pushrod V8.

The good news is you can buy a 5.0-5.4 928 V8 engine for next to nothing, where a 3.2 or 3.6 911 motor (which is even less powerful) costs thousands, even tired and used.
