Machining top end price
What is a ball park price for all the machine work that needs to be done when doing a top end rebuild?
Just normal wear on a 1980SC. Nothing burnt, bent, broken. Thanks. Ron.G |

I think I paid around $900+. But, I had to have a few valves replaced, flywheel and pistons balanced, rods shot peened, etc.

on the other end of the scale, if you do rings, and find a lot of valves are bad, could be upwards of $3K+
a 3.2 I am working on now had $1600 in head work alone. Jim

Around $400 for machining including new guides, spring test and assembly at correct spring height - ready to go when you get them back.
Add another $5-600 for new valves and replacing a few exhaust studs. -Chris

The CE appears to charge $774 for the same thing A.E. charges about $400 for. All Bob does are heads so it possible that he's done more 911 heads than the Porsche specialized machine shops. -Chris
