ITBs w/Motronic ECU, cam choices for 3.2 Carrera rebuilds
Do ITBs gain anything over a stock Carrera intake if the Motronic ECU is retained?
Cam choice is what Im really curious about. I know I cant use anything hotter than a 20/21, 964, or 993 Supercup cam with the common plenum carerra intake due to fuel reversion issues. Can the Motronic ECU be chipped to use a hotter cam like a GE40, GE60, or GE80 if ITBs are used instead of the Carrera intake? Or would I need to go to full engine management if I wanted the hotter cam? TIA |

Sherman:
You may use any cam you wish with ITB's & Motronic. The real issue here is that such combinations require custom mapping done on either an engine dyno or load-type chassis dyno and thats NOT cheap. Full engine management is easier for someone to build the maps needed to retain any semblance of durability.

The only other consideration is valve to piston clearances. The close lobe centers with some of these cams can cause a problem with V to P.

How do you retain the motronics AFM w/ ITBs? Can it be chipped to do alpha-N or speed-density? Just curious...
