3.0 to 3.2 ETERNAL QUESTIONS - ANSWERS NEEDED
The Car:
1980 911SC 3.0 The Plan (the highlights anyway): > Mahle 3.0 to 3.2 (9.8 to 1) P & C kit > Regrind cams to 964's > Griffith Air Conditioning System > K3 Alternator > SSI Heat Exchangers > Triad Muffler (2 in - 2 out) > Catalytic Convertor goes away > CSI to EFI The Questions: > CSI to EFI: Biltz kit looks good and is priced well. Seems like a good fuel injection solution. But - I would greatly prefer a distributor-less ignition system - Biltz uses the original distributor. > Concept: Electromotive ignition system with the Biltz fuel system: but how? > Apparently popular: 'Find' 3.2 Carrera intake manifold(s) and with the Clewitt Engineering (and others) Electromotive TEC-3 kit - get 'everything' needed. Well...3.2 manifolds are somewhat hard to find and not an un-pricey solution. Is this method worth it in cost and results? Worth buying new 3.2 manifolds? > All throttle body methods seem way to pricey and tune sophisticated. Any other ways, means, ideas? > Dual Plugs - We're talking a nice upgrade for a higher end street machine - are Dual Plugs really necessary? Worth it? > Jeez Leweez - So I'm dumping the heater fan and the smog crap and you want me to change a LOT of the ducting and tin metal - to accomodate the EFI and accoutrement? OK, but why isn't there a clear path (read 'kit') for that part of the journey? Well, I'm ready to adjust, adapt and overcome...just need a little hand holding and a map to the end of this universe. All experienced perspectives please apply. Thanks! Jim

Well...I did read that long thread - a couple of times.
What it doesn't answer, with the exception of some Ford doohicky thing, is the distributorless ignition system and methods for - let's say - coordinating with the Biltz EFI system. I don't want to engineer, I want to buy and plug and play.

I don't know what the actual compression of the Mahle "9.8:1" setup is but a true 9.8:1CR is probably the highest you want to go on single plug and 93 octane.

Have you read the installation manuel on the bitz racing website? there is very little you have to modify if you have a CIS car, you can leave the entire old injection system inplace including airbox its mainly just issues of attaching the new sensors and wiring everything up the only modifications you have to make are getting the O2 sensor welded to your exhurst and drilling holes for running wires all the rest bolts on!

``Well, I'm ready to adjust, adapt and overcome...just need a little hand holding and a map to the end of this universe``
``I don't want to engineer, I want to buy and plug and play.`` Which is it? The Ford ``doohicky thing`` is the answer you are looking for if you want to run with the megasquirt kit that Tony is iffering. A simply addition to the megasquirt board nad you can run one of the iterations of megasquirt that controls ignition...with little fuss (i.e. you need to adapt and overcome a little bit) If you really want plug and play with a EFI and ignition system, there are plenty available...its just going to cost you an arm and leg, and you do seem to have some concern about $$$. My old H-D mechanic use to have a sign over his service window ``Service available: Fast, Cheap and Good...pick any two`` Kind of sums up your perdicament. R\ Dustin |

Ah Dustin
I plead guilty as charged - you've pinned me as neatly as a bug on a board! Ok - alright already - I'll do some more homework and study the megasquirt potentials for the ignition system and ecu. If you have already studied this course, though, I would most appreciate any specifics that you can direct me towards: say which megasquirt ignition system iteration you believe would be 'best' as to basic capabilitites and result in a mechanical distributorless system. And, please, while you're at it, if you will, pick your choice for me - also - as if I had little concern for $$, for that plug and play efi and ignition system. It's been so long since I rebuilt engines and messed with dual carbs, timing and the like that I'm only an egg when it comes to understanding these EFI and electronic systems - at my age there are but few mips left to play tag with. Thanks! Jim

Do some research on MS, MSII, MSnS (search on other than this board, too). The Tbitz stuff is just some hardware to make efi easy to put on your car(no offense Tony, your kit is awesome and really well priced!).
