Machinst recommended "new" place to clean
I went to a Rich Jacksic (local porsche engine machinist) to have the engine parts I bought on Pelican measured and checked out.
He made a suggestion that I had not read or seen online so I thought I would share it. If it has been shared in the past, sorry in advance. Rich recommended I clean the inside of the Intermediate Gear. He said it acts like a centrifuge. The oil in the gear is spun and the crap sticks to the inner wall. No need to contaminate the engine oil after all the cleaning I have done! To get the inside clean you have to remove the snap ring   You then just have to screw a 6mm bolt in and gently remove the plug by hand.    I took these pictures after soaked the inside with Mineral Spirits and then squirted a decent amount of brake cleaner in until the run off was clear instead of black.

Can't be too clean! Though I'm pretty sure it's in "the book", no not Bruce's, the other one, Wayne's Engine rebuilding book
 It certainly can't hurt to remind everyone.
