2.0 and chain tensioner update

What's the best path for the tensioner update on an early 2.0? Change the chain boxes and covers or is it possible to drill the originals? Thank you!

I think it would be really neat if you drilled a hole in the original covers and hooked the oil line up rather than put on 1980s parts...JMHO

Thanks Scott. I was thinking along the same line. Just wishing someone had "been there, done that" so I can try and avoid any land mines.

Well, I can't profess to have done the exact same thing, but it should be plug and play. Make sure you get the holes lined up right with the tensioners!

I built a 67 sandcast motor a few years back that
I updated for pressure fed tensioners. I sent the original covers and chain boxes to Ollies for machining. The only snag was we had to fabricate/modify an oil line, I believe it was on the distributor side. It is not that complicated of an operation just not bolt on. Hope this helps.

True, the original sand cast boxes have the protrusion for the cam-driven fuel pump and they proclude the use of the original 3.2 tensioner oil line on the left side. Perhaps a machine shop can crimp together a piece of copper tubing with rubber tubing, like the oil line from the case to the cam towers. I would be wary of trying to bend the original to fit.

Cheers
Scott
