Novice reinstalling engine

Ladies and gentlemen,

In opening please let me apologize for such a trivial matter.

There are people on this forum who could tell you the pitch, length, number of threads and various wear characteristics of the bolts on their engine stand.

I am reinstalling my engine for the first time and I was wondering how you can tell if the clutch release fork (the one inside the bell housing) has seated in it's groove on the throwout bearing as the engine and gearbox go together.

I read something about looking in as you assemble it, but as I get close all I see is the outer rim of the pressure plate.

I am green and will take my fair share of "use the search" backlash.

Be as brutal as you must, but please offer some light.

I had someone pushing the engine in while someone was under holding the fork. As it was pushed in I had a 3rd person look through the peep hole at the top. As it slid in, you can visually see the clutch fork moving forward and feel it seet. Kind of tricky, took us a while in the dark. A matter of trial and error.

I do my own installs without help. Like gota says you can look through the peep hole at the top of the bell housing. Use a bright drop light and you can see the forks and throwout bearing. It takes a lot of slowly pushing in and then getting on top of the engine and looking, but it works.
