through bolts seals

I'm sure i've read something bout it a few days ago... but can't find the thread...
well : it was told we don't need silicon or something like that to secure through o bolts seals right ?
only a bit of oil
may you confirm, is this area really a (probably) leaking area ?
thanks
Philippe

No need for the silcone...I used the green o-rings lubed with Dow Corning 111. Be careful not to cut the seals (o-rings) as you install them over the threads of the through-bolts.

+1

Here's why I don't use the blue O-rings that come with the Reinz
gasket kits:

I used:
Green Viton O-rings, Lubed with Dow Corning 111 and a sharpie cap to slip them over the bolt threads.

The "Dow Corning" is just a silicon paste. It's a non hardening grease that lubricates o-rings. You should be able to find a substitute. I found some at a SCUBA shop. They used it on dive watches and regulators. Failing this oil will do.

Green Viton seals on all case through bolts.
We use Dow 55 o-ring lubricant and it is important that the sealing surface is flat. It is not uncommon to see the sealing surface uneven (2.7 mag cases are notorious).

Hi,

I wanted to order some of these Viton seals, but can anyone quickly confirm what size they are?

Thanks

Alan
