Which valve guides should I buy?
Pelican sells a couple of different valve guides and I'm curious if it makes difference. Bronze and Phosphorus bronze.
Also curious what the oversized ones are for? Figured since the motor is apart and the valves seem to have a very slight wobble to them I'd replace them all. Brian

Were the heads done when the other engine work was done? I would consider sending the heads out to get the work done, I would not trust anyone who hasn't done them before. And I believe that Manganese bronze are what were put in the heads.

Manganese bronze offers much better wear characteristics and the phosphorous bronze offers superior cooling.
In turbo and race heads (anything making high exhaust temperatures) we use the PB guides for the exhaust valve. On most street engines we use MB exclusively. BTW: the exhaust valves guides generally get a slightly larger clearance to allow for better oiling. High performance turbos generally run without valve stem seal . This promotes cooling and reduces wear. Yes oil consumption can go up.

Interesting. Protomotive recommended AliSiBr valve guides for my blown Carrera motor. They said they are very durable and are excellent for high power turbo motors
