Long Block Complete/Twin Plug
Finished up the long block on my 2.5L Race engine last night.
Test fitted the new 12 pin Distributor from jbracing.com Its a very high quality billet distributor that uses a jaguar cap and rotor ( easy to obtain and reasonably priced) easy to adjust advance. ![]() ![]() ![]()

The cap fitted to your twin plug distributor is the Intermotors after market cap. It is without doubt far inferior to the cap we use with our distibutor. We looked at this cap for use with our distributor and the tolerances were hideous.
The cap shown in your picture has aluminum contact points and flat contacts inside where clearance is the most important and the body is made of thermal plastic. The best cap to use for this application is the genuine Marelli cap which uses brass contacts (machined for accuracy and bakelite body. Bakelite is far more expensive but is the only quality material for making distributor caps. The real Marelli cap can be purchased at any Jaguar dealer for around $150 and will prove to offer far better service from the over-all quality. By the way, the Intermotors cap can be purchased from Kragen.

Just for fun, please post a picture of the "Jag" rotor used in this distributor.
BTW: JB Racing does make very nice, high quality bits.

Very Clean 2.5 Engine. Nice work. What will you use for the fuel system? MFI, Webers? What cams did you use? Stock rods?
I'm just interested......

Mark
I guess that's what I get for trying to be helpful. No one questioned the quality of the distributor, quite the contrary, just the cap. If you take the time to look at the two caps you'll see for yourself. One thing I've noticed from your posts is that you seem to want to use the best possible part. The Jag / Marelli part has nothing to do with me. It's just a better part at a very reasonable price. It's not about me or JB racing. It's just a matter of quality. Look for yourself. You might want to buy the top quality cap and save the other for a spare. Cheers For the rest of you reading this post, quality counts. Check the quality of both pieces and choose for yourself.

Great engine, but Wow! Strong language from someone who is told there may be a better option for distributor caps
![]() As a side note, I have the Marelli / Jag cap on my distributor and it is a very well made piece. It reminds me of the OEM Bosch cap - very solid and well machined. AM

Here's the resent history.
Here's a copy of the letter I sent to Mr. Minkoff 10-13-06. Hi Mark I appreciate your resent interest in our twin plug distributor kit. After thinking through the possible results of doing business with you again, it seems reasonable to assume that it would not lead to anything good for Supertec. I am willing to put the past behind but it has come to my attention that you still speak badly about me in public. That just isn't fair. Supertec has a great reputation in the Porsche community and in the past (and it appears even recently) you have attempted to do real damage to my ability to earn a living. I can only imagine what might happen if you have problems with our distributor kit or any other Supertec product for that matter. Please don't see this as some kind of attack on you. You are of course welcome to your opinions but when your opinions are designed to damage my business [I believe unfairly] then choosing not to do business with you is more self preservation than any rebuke of you personally. Jarvis Tech builds a distributor that can be used in your engine. I believe Carquip sells that distributor at a reasonable price. Tom @ 303-443-1343 Good luck with your racing experience. Best regards Henry Schmidt Supertec Performance

Just to add a separate view on the dizzy cap, Jag guys really, really don't care for them and I know of no one racing with them. Just something to think of and they usually are not spinning them as hard as a GE80 six will either.
Go to Jaglovers and do a search. You may have differences with Henry, but he does know his stuff. And in this case for a product that he directed you to an OEM retailer, I would at least do yourself the service of a little research. A google search likely will yield some answers.

By the way Mark, one fine looking engine that sounds like it will scream delightfully.
Above wasn't intended as criticism but of caution. If you have any ignition problems it most likely won't be for many miles. If then, just check the cap....as I dislike Al/plastic caps for racing especially as ignitions systems climb in power. Hope to here how it runs in the car.
