Ben, you got a picture of this installed?

Ben,

I would love to build a turbo motor for my car as well, but it would be a second motor. Ideally I would build a low boost quick spool turbo out of 3.4 or 3.5 with intercooler to fit under a ducktail. Then I would also have a second transmission for it and I would swap them depending on my mood :)

Cheers

:)Couple of thoughts. Low cost is bore the stock P&C to 3.3 and run J&W's.

Better yet, start with a 3.2 adding a 3.6 crank with factory 3.3 or 3.4 P&C's makes for a great, strong turbo motor. The longer stroke helps pre boost as dose the increased compression it adds.

I think you can shoe in a Carrera intake with custom intercooler. An alternative is to convert a 930 pancake intake manifold to EFI and extrude hone it. This would give you a lot of room for the IC.

With EFI, the longer stroke, added compression, and the righ turbo you do not need to go low pressure to get drivability. Now you can access 500hp if desired with boost starting under 2000rpm.

A 76-77 short bell housing Turbo transmission would be a great match. Might try a built 915 with boost control to keep boost down in first. A G50/50 (C2 turbo) is the cream of the crop and if you change out 2-5th gears from a normal C2 or 4 it will flat rock.

Sorry, could not help myself but this is one of my dreams. A monster single turbo in a 74 or 73RS body.

While we're busy spending Ben's money, why not do a 3.8 L motor and a 6 speed G50?

Sure, just cut to the chase and put a 993 Twin Turbo motor into it and be done with it.
That's where you'll end up anyways :D:D

I like the way you think. 3.2 crank, larger pistons/cylinders with maybe 8:1CR, limit boost to 1 bar or slightly over, twin plug, make it safe to 7400rpm and limit speed to 6800rpm for long life.

Or maybe it's possible to build a "torquer turbo" with one of those 76.4mm cranks and the larger PCs. Then keep the revs mild and emjoy big torque both on and off boost.
