If one is broken there are more waiting in line behind it usually. You'll want ot budget for a top-end if/when it gets worse. Usually what you'll hear is similar to an exhaust leak. A "tick/Chuff" type sounds.
I'd just be sure you know what you're getting into. Sometimes these engines will go for years with 2 or more broken studs, others will develop oil-leaks and start leaking combustion in a few months.

Welcome to the board.
Broken studs on a 2.7 are rare. More likely it has a head stud pulling from the case. This means a complete disassembly is in the near future. Budget an overhaul in you plans and see if the purchase makes sense. 3.0 transplants are easy but finding a good one will be the challenge.

Let me guess, the car seems like a "deal" right?
PASS on the car if you haven't already purchased it. Once you figure in the price of rebuilding the motor you could have a nice SC or Carrera. Just the machining for the 2.7 case properly is $1000 before you buy any parts. -Chris
