Hi Mike,
I ran my shop vacuum in the exhaust manifolds to suck up any possible debris. It looked as clean as can be...But you`re right, point well taken. Aurel |

I was looking for a used fan housing since mine is cracked. But I discovered that the 225 mm one that I have is a lot cheaper than a 245 mm. So I ordered a brand new one from our host ($246 versus $649 for a 245 mm). That and the larger intake ports are some of the sweet specificities of the 78 SC.

Damn, I am back to square one; it was too nice to be true:
Unfortunately, we recently discovered that one or more of the parts you ordered are No Longer Available (NLA). These are: OEM-93010600500 Fan housing Brand: Genuine Porsche***NLA Still looking for a 225mm fan housing then... Aurel |

That I have. I put a bid on this housing, though:
It looks terrible, but if I get it for cheap, I will sandblast it. Aurel |

I saw that one, but I already made a deal with this pelican member:
930 fan housing I know the 930.106.102.0R can replace my 930.106.101.0R. It looks in very good shape, I hope my problem is solved. Aurel |

Okay, now that my fan problems are solved (details: 226 mm fan in 245 mm housing ), I can finally report some progress:
![]() ![]() The CIS goes back on tomorrow, but I am wondering if I should replace hoses on it , and what other maintenance I could do on it while all is accessible? One more thing, I can`t remember what the purpose of these two brackets was...any idea? ![]() Aurel |

those brackets are to facilitate mounting the heater blower motor a/o its hoses in the engine bay.
If you do a parts schematic looking at the heater blower motor in the engine bay you'll see them. Keep up the great work amd posting on your progress. Bob

Cleaning up the CIS system, the injectors and intake pipes are a bit dirty. Is it okay to spray them with brake cleaner?

I'd send your injectors out for cleaning, testing. You'd be surprized how dirty they are.

I cleaned my injectors by using a rubber hose about a foot long clamped to the threaded part of the injector. I then set my compressor to about 60 psig and used a rubber tip air nozzle to clean the injectors. You can fill the hose with what ever cleaner you want and view the spray pattern. I have used ultrasonic cleaners in the past and have not been happy with the results.

I am getting confused about these injectors: are they purely mechanical, or do they need electrical pulse to open? On the other hand, I don`t see where I would connect wires on them, so they look only mechanical to me. Someone please enlighten me on the 3.0 CIS injectors ![]() Aurel |

The CIS injectors are entirely mechanical. I used the same technique to clean mine as Matthew. I also figured out how to backflush them (but I question whether it's worthwhile).

Here are my injectors after ultrasonic bath of propanol, then trichloroethylene, then methanol flush with compressed air. This was the highlight of my working day in the chemistry lab

How nice of the university to give you that equipment to use! The injectors look great. How is the spray pattern?
