Chain Tensioner Upgrade in Early 2.0
Has anyone had this problem before when installing the upgraded oil fed tensioners? The case is an early 65. The cam oil lines supplied for both the left and right side are a little short. Any ideas?

Modern lines assume a pressure sender block in between the case fitting and the line. Unfortunately you can't use the case fitting that threads through the pressure sender from a later engine because the early fitting has pipe threads but the later one has straight threads.
I would have a new hose made up of the correct length and "clocking" to fit.

My tensioner upgrade kit from way back when came with at least one extra hose - a longer one than my '77 needed, which I think was for the early case without the oil pressure sender block. Maybe someone in your neck of the woods has one kicking around and will give it to you.
Or you can install the later style pressure sender block and hollow bolt. I didn't know there was a thread difference, but I've installed these on a couple of early sand cast aluminum cases with no problems that I recall. M10x1.0 thread is very close to 1/8" NPT, so if the fitting won't screw in, maybe tapping would clean it up? This gives you the ability to install the oil pressure sender back there, and install an idiot light sender up front by the thermostat. Walt |

Walt, I'm not skilled enough to run a tap into the aluminum case and not get shavings in the oil system.
The fittings are M12 anyway. See below. ![]()

I went looking for my stash of these fittings, and my spare (damaged) sand cast case. Found these first: ![]() Three different flavors of right side tensioner style cam oil lines. Shortest measured 27.2cm (approx). Next one was 27.4, and had P/N 930 107 348.04 on its tag. Long one was 29.8cm. That would be the one made for the early cars, I think. BTW, I know of two ways to attach an oil pressure sender to this line. One is with the beveled steel block (and it comes in two flavors, for a 10mm threaded sender, or for a much larger threaded one), and the other is with a banjo fitting which has M10x 1.00 thread and is used with a shorter hollow bolt than the bolt needed for the steel block.
